i'm the guy who seemed to upset everyone yesterday.. so, 1) i read the R7800 installation page https://forum.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=320614 before posting however didnt notice that i must be logged in to see the content. i couldnt find it as i didnt have an account so i made one inorder to post. is there a way to make it visible w/o creating an account? if not, upping the font on that comment would help.
2) no noob is going to read 187 pages as another user stated. its not realistic. i read the last 8 or so pages and did a decent bit of research on youtube for ddwrt to avoid signing up for the forum in the first place - i didnt stumble across this site and decide to sign-up whimsically.
for what its worth, A) if the kong build was the latest img file i mostlikely wouldnt have had to create an account. B) if the install guide was tacked on the r7800 DL page, i wouldnt have had to make an account. my point is fixing the root issue will prevent noobs from causing problems. just sayin'.

Nobody with wiki access has access to link the Install guide to the router database, that is on the webmasters. So, I guess someone needs to link the install guide in an email to them to fix it. You didn't piss anyone off, it's just that a lot of the new users are unaware of the nuances of this firmware project and they end up coming on here and wondering why things don't work. It's no different than before the router database was updated this last time. Not entirely your fault. But hey, at least now you know _________________ "Life is but a fleeting moment, a vapor that vanishes quickly; All is vanity"

to me unrealistic sound's like "be lazy complain n'do all kind of shit and stupid questions"
instead or "read and find it for yourself"....
its called generation born blind...
they want it as easy as possible and they become angry if its not....they cant see the obvious and they are ready to ask same questions again and again, so sorry to see it with my own eye's...
Sometimes the gold is hidden... you have to put some effort to find it... otherwise its not fun... _________________ Atheros

You did not upset anyone it is just we sometimes feel we have to do work which should not be necessary
I am the author of the install guide and it is written in bold that you should be logged in to see the guide, I will see how I can make it even more obvious.
(braille anyone )
When you visit the suppported devices wiki: https://wiki.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Supported_Devices#Read_Me_First.21
Because you can not read through 178 pages I created the install guide
But I nor other participants here have access to the website or the wiki.
I know some of the moderators and if I ask politely they will add a link here or there, but the moderators of the forum do not have jurisdiction over the website either.
So the information is there but unfortunately you have to take effort to find it.
I have collected some information which can be useful to new user does that make in more clear?
Below some pointers which might help to get the best out of DDWRT and out of the forum:
1. Research your router, start with the supported devices wiki:
https://wiki.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Supported_Devices .
2. In the supported devices wiki you can see if your router is supported and what architecture your router has and if you are lucky also an install guide/wiki.
3. Post in the right forum, from the former step you can see if your router is Broadcom, Qualcomm/Atheros, Marvell or other, use that forum to post router specific questions, for networking questions post in the Advanced Networking forum and for other things in the General Questions forum.
4. When posting always state router model, build number and when applicable the Kernel version.
Describe your problem and how you think it can be solved.
Give as much detail as you can also provide your network setup if applicable.
For your Network setup, state what wiki you have used: https://wiki.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Linking_Routers
5. When posting pictures make sure the maximum width is not more than 600 pixels.
6. Do not hijack a thread, meaning do not post your own problem in someone else's thread. Just start your own thread.
7. If your post is answered and your problem solved, mark your thread with [SOLVED] (the header of your first post).
8. Do NOT use the router database, builds can be found at:
https://dd-wrt.com/support/other-downloads/?path=betas%2F2019%2F
All builds are beta including those from the router database.
9. Before uploading a new build to your router, research the build by looking in the build threads.
This is an example of a build thread for build 41328 for Broadcom routers:
https://forum.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=321699&highlight=41328
Search build threads with the search function and search on build number.
10. Use the build threads from the former step to report success or problems.
11. For older Broadcom routers (Linksys WRT54 and E series) read the peacock thread although some of it is outdated: https://forum.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=51486
Builds can be found in the Broadcom directory for Linux kernel 2.4, in Broadcom_K26 for Linux K2.6 and in Broadcom_K3X for Linux K3.X.
12. If you are sure you have discovered a bug, after asking and querying the forum, you can report a real bug in the bug tracker: https://svn.dd-wrt.com/
This is also the place where the commits/changes to the source are administrated.
