Attached is the "official" DDWRT install guide for the Netgear R6400v2 which can also be used for the R6700v3 as that is identical, albeit with a different boardid and detachable antennas.
It can also be used for the XR300, which seems a rebranded R6700v3.

The Netgear R6400v2 is the successor of the R6400v1, software is however not entirely compatible, although the routers share a lot of components.
So take note of the version:
The v1 has simply "Model: R6400" on its label on the underside of the router and the v2 has: "Model: R6400v2".
Netgear is using different boardid's for the R6400v2, which makes it difficult to support and leads to misidentification, we are very interested in your boardid, and when and where (geographical region) you bought it. How to obtain your boardid is describe in this guide.
For the R6400v2 use builds after September 1st 2018, with buildnumber 36820 or later.
For the R6700v3 use builds after September 3rd 2018, with buildnumber 36840 or later.
Builds are experimental, use at your own risk.
Debricking instructions are available in the second post of this thread and might be needed, although many users report good success provided you follow the instructions of this guide.
Files for going back to stock or for use with TFTP are also attached for R6400v2 (boardid's U12H332T20 and U12H332T30) in this post and for R6700v3 (boardid U12H332T77) in the third post of this thread.

I have removed the earlier content on de-bricking the R6400 and added a more comprehensive guide here. Hence the major edit.
This forum has been a great source of learning for me. It started with solving my using the E900 router to transmit two channels - one on VPN and the other open. The need to search for stuff has the associated plus that we get to know of many possibilities that exist. However, the only time when I found this searching to be a pain was when my new R6400 router got bricked. dd-wrt is a hobby - repairing bricked routers is not !!
I would find some solution somewhere ... spend an hour understanding and then trying and re-trying and failing. Thanks to some good samaritans, my electronics background and associated curiousness and the notes that I made while learning ... I could prepare this guide to unbrick the R6400.
The R6400 is a great router - dd-wrt has released a few stable versions !! But, I am sure there will be other R6400 users who have bricked their pieces and are looking for solutions. The objective is to help them find relevant information in one place + help the absolute dummy how to ping.
And did I mention How I bricked my router?
Well - this same site suggested a dd-wrt build and listed the router in the list of compatible devices. So I purchased the router - then went ahead with loading dd-wrt. It loaded - but with many issues. I tried to revert to the earlier build (from the officially supported page)... and thus did my router crash !!
I realised that this is a WIP forum. Always Work in Progress. Well - so is this guide. Please add a comment if you have some suggestions for the next version.
NMRPFLASH: The section on NMRP flash applies to most Netgear routers. In fact, I discovered that this can also be used to load dd-wrt on the router (not recommended... please use egc's guide in the first post). This tool is also very handy when you have loaded a BS build and need to revert back to Kong's ... when you are unable to do a browser upgrade and ddup utility is nowhere to be found. Applies to selected Netgear Routers ONLY.

I have attached a first version of instructions for the R6400v2 in the first post of this thread. It needs some serious editing and polishing, it is just to get an idea.
This as we anticipate (hope) that DDWRT will have full support (both builds from Kong and BS) coming in the next weeks.

... and I have just uploaded the first version of the un-bricking guide with info on how the router boots up, what is bricked state etc. I am sure there will be many more bricked R6400 units, belonging to users who followed the same path as I did
Currently build 36698 is installed on my router and seems to be running stable, but already I noticed a few bugs. Muzeneer says about DHCPD ... I am yet to try any of the deeper functions (just loaded it an hour ago). Kong's "certified" build would give us a lot of confidence to load.
I think someone needs to get cracking with the instruction manual
Builds are up, there are two versions. R6400V2.chk (U12H332T20_NETGEAR) and R6400V2OTP.chk (U12H332T30_NETGEAR).
Since netgear firmware checks if you use the correct one you can't do anything wrong.
The build is the same as the v1 build which I use and therefore I know it is stable. Once dd-wrt is on it you can use ddup or use dd-wrt.v24-K3_AC_ARM_STD_128K.bin the bin is for 6400v1 6400v2 and 6400v2OTP. _________________ KONG PB's: http://www.desipro.de/ddwrt/
