Sorry but I only wanted to make an user aware what could happen. I reported quite some problems related to my RT-AC88U routers many times already without any real feedback for quite some time. This soft bricking of the E3000 during upgrading is for me less annoying than the random reboots of my powerful main routers. The E3000 is working after unbricking without big issues and it was not a real issue for me.
Ather annoying issue i can see is the random disconnect of some WIFI devices for all of my Broadcom based routers. The all working with the same SSID and passwords. This can be handled partially with increasing the Key Renewal Interval. But its not a real fix. This issue can also be seen often in posts.
Im completely aware i don't anything pay for the DDWRT. Nobody is owing me something here. And im an mostly happy user.
Hoppe this was not to far off topic. _________________ Asus AC-RT88U (Gateway, asus_rt-ac88u-firmware_52459.trx)

Well, for all we know, you could be selecting "reset to defaults" after flashing on the firmware upgrade page, which is known to soft brick devices. _________________ "The woods are lovely, dark and deep,

Im aware of this problem but I was aliays doing a strait update only. The configuration was working again after TFTP unbricking without future action. A few time I reconfigured manualy or I restored from a recent variable backup (not with the build in binary one). _________________ Asus AC-RT88U (Gateway, asus_rt-ac88u-firmware_52459.trx)

I successfully upgraded my Linksys E3000 to v3.0 r52095 mega (03/23/23).
I was able to login and change the password, however, after about 30 seconds the router stops responding (cannot move to any other tabs) and I get the error message "Hmmm... I can't reach this page".
Any idea what may be the issue and how I can correct it?
It seems the dd-wrt interface is continuously becomes unresponsive, and then responsive some minutes later.
Even though I cannot access the dd-wrt interface, I can still ping the router and I can still get internet access. After a while I can access the interface for about 30 seconds to 1 minute.

If you are already on DDWRT you can just upgrade via the GUI
I would reset to defaults before upgrade and after upgrade.
The reset to defaults after update is the most important one.
I know I'm late to this discussion but I had to dig up a previous E3000 and was reading this thread. egc specifically said to 'reset to defaults' both before and after which dale_gribble then suggests is known to soft brick. So I'm wondering which it is or have I misunderstood something?
you mean during the upgrade process? Why would someone do that? My hands are far away during upgrades.
edit: aha you mean selecting 'reset to defaults' as an option for the upgrade/during the upgrade? It's been a while since I've upgraded my existing dd-wrt router.

"After flashing" option on the firmware upgrade page is what is being referred to, not a separate reset either via webUI "Factory Defaults" page, button, or 'nvram erase && reboot'. Shows how familiar people are with the webUI and it's nuances
Being away so long I wanted to follow the guidance. After reading the E3000 and the Peacock post there wasn't much info on K3 to decide for it. Also the E3000 K3 install instructions are, imho, ambiguous, with a warning of bricking, not what I needed late at night.
My need for this router is quite straightforward: just a backup internet gateway that will also carry my kid's traffic. My other dd-wrt router handles the dhcp, wireless, and so on.
And if I don't have too, I hope to avoid another 30-30-30 again for a long while....
