HEllo,

i own a Dlink DIR-882 and switched from the stock firmware to dd-wrt this week and i am on the build DD-WRT v3.0-r48996 std (05/30/22). I tried to follow the tutorial from here: https://wiki.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Easy_torrenting_with_dd-wrt
but under the NAS menu there is no Bittorrent option to activate. I pluged in a HDD and formated it as it was asked in the tutorial https://wiki.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/How_to_-_Format_and_Partition_External_Storage_Device

Please tell me what i am missing if i want to use torrenting on my router.

Well, on a 16MB flash device, you dont have all the features available.

But congrats, DD-WRT is safer than stock firmware as long as you keep the latest DD-WRT flashed. Your build is quite far behind as is.

Also torrenting is quite CPU intensive, Yours not too shabby 880MHz dual core, but low flash amount.

DIR-882 is not configured for the transmission client, probably due to flash size constraints. This file was added to the public repo in 2018, but going by current firmware image size, not sure if optimizations over the past couple of years have freed up enough space to include transmission because I have no idea off the top of my head that size limitation set in u-boot, etc.

Its not enabled, the # before it disables it. So no, your router is unlikely to have sufficient space, I wouldn't recommend it anyway, your hw generally wont be able to handle the regular routers config + torrent, torrenting can be quite CPU intensive and when CPU is taken, everything suffers.

BUt like I said, DD-WRT is much better than stock in every way especially security.

The config file was added in 2018; there is neither an older version of it or a newer version of it as plainly shown in that link if you do your homework (i.e. click where it says, "History").

So, to reiterate what @the-j0ker has plainly stated, NO, it's NOT included in the current release. Again, given current firmware image file sizes and not knowing how much weight transmission would add to current release, it will likely not get included because the resulting firmware image size would brick your router (hence why it was probably commented out in the first place).

Perhaps you can use Entware to install it?

If this information is correct, it does have a USB 2.0 and a USB 3.0 port and it might be possible as long as the USB drives played nicely.

What would help here is a CLI flash of firmware and grabbing the complete output and attaching it, to compare the erased blocks vs writen to see if theres enough blocks left depending on size of block for this device...

Then looking at the transmission source, which was last updated 2 years ago so its due for a refresh.

This link indicates anything with 16MB flash has it commented out.
Even this ea2700 has 64MB flash and it doesnt have it.

TBH too much time already for very little bang in returns. SO, peace out. Get a raspberry PI and go torrent mad.

Of course, there's a highly vintage torrent client (ctorrent) in the repo from back during the Eko dayz. I can't find any upstream development since 2004, though, without attempting a CVS checkout from sourceforge.net

Someone who's really bored could probably tinker with that to see if it can be revived and patched and updated...

Thanks guys for the great inputs and for your time, I am still learning actually I just brought this router from someone because saw on the Router Database that it supports DD-WRT and there is written RAM: 128 MB and FLASH: 128MB and also because it has 2 USB ports It seems I mistaken it, I had before an ISP router KAON AR4010 but it lacked of functions and it is buggy wanted to use as an additional AP connected via cable.
Was thinking to use this DIR-882 with torrent client, Samba server, Openvpn server. What I understood from you guys now, it was not the best option to buy this router (wanted to have features cheaply )
