how many people are going to know to use FF 13 or they can brick their router. not many. pays to read. regardless on r33525 or 21061 which browser do i need use for the webGUI in those? a quite old one. lucky for dlink emergency room / rescue or i would be perma bricked. now you see how to unbrick then you can test new versions once un-bricked.
like said the wiki says r33525 is last version that will not brick this router on initial flash. (im not sure this is true). so you HAVE to take that one first, no?
network did not work for me at all on r33525 but internet did, i could not see other computers on my network. flashed it 2 years ago from 21061 to 33525 did i use FF 13 at that time? Cant remember. However it restarted and everything normally like it had a good flash.
i am using in client mode
if other ppl have network working on 33525 then that should tell me bad flash, i used wrong browser.
21061 used to be the recommended build and i recommend it for this router and most 2.4ghz ones. is no advantage to use r33525.
And you completely glazed over reading the current information about 47474. So, please consider contributing to updating the information for the community at large. Thanks.
"all builds after 33525 are too big to flash and will brick your router. "
just tried to flash 44715 to this router filesize was only very slightly higher guess what router is now perma-bricked cant even get into emergency room anymore.
what difference does it make when all builds after 33525 will brick dir-615 router, i have now proven that, i can not use or test them at all, and it bricks this router
21061 disconnect me 3 times in a row this morning, cant get into webGUI, had to unplug and re-plug. guess i should have used 33525 again, but would networking even work who knows, but a lot better than being perma-bricked.
this router is trash now
whats the point in releasing newer versions for dir-615 if its too big to flash and bricks it?

But the wiki clearly states all builds between 33525 and 47474 will brick you router so why did you flash 44715 ?
ok i see now what is going on here by the file size. yes that is right 47474 is same size as 33525 so it should not brick it.
no the wiki does not say that, the wiki says,
NOTE: The newest factory-to-ddwrt-firmware.bin file that may be used with working wifi is 47474; all builds after 33525 are too big to flash and will brick your router.
there is no mention of or use of the word between in there. perhaps you can put your sentence into the wiki
47474 also comes after 33525. it says "ALL builds after." Maybe the 47474 note is for development purposes how should I know. it is not at all clear, but now i see why he mentioned it first.
3457kb seems to be max file size for this router...
so youre saying 47474 and above works on the dir-615 have you flashed it are you using it? is network working? not disconnecting you every morning either? not sure if I want to risk it.

The note is regarding dir615e3-factory-to-ddwrt-firmware.bin and will be further edited. Sorry, I personally was responsible, and didn't feel like sifting through every release download file size info at the time. The issue "went away", then returned, then was corrected again:

Tried the new build r54604 12/26/23 flashed and working for internet but I don't see network anymore, am i missing some new setting? Internet is working, signal quality seems higher than 21061, router restarted like 7 times after upgrade, worried me a bit, but then did work, eventually,
confused about what version to use, factory to ddwrt, or just ddwrt, perhaps has something to do with network disappearing? I used the regular ddwrt (not factory-to), and now network is gone.
going to try factory-to from dlink rescue / recovery room and see if that fixes it,
going to try factory-to from dlink rescue / recovery room and see if that fixes it,
this worked and restored the network.
you have to use firefox 13.0.1
it wont assign ip in recovery mode, you have to set static ip of 192.168.0.2 (2 can prob be another number), go to 192.168.0.1 in browser, be prepared to switch back to obtain ip adress automatically after, and possibly switch static / auto more times, to get connectivity,
it makes me wonder what the non factory-to-ddwrt firmware is needed or wanted to use, as it just disables networking. seems like it should always be flashed with the factory-to version,
but if you want to disable networking on client (now renamed station) mode, u can flash the regular version...
now am on latest version with working network so I wrote myself a faq lol and will be doing it this way from now on on any dlink

Consider the fact that 21061 the wireless interface(s) are "ath*" and on current releases they are "wlan*"... may just be a matter of saving new nvram variables or doing a reset and reconfigure from scratch, but this may be a "known issue" with the firmware.bin files (or not). Thanks for the follow-up. _________________ "Life is but a fleeting moment, a vapor that vanishes quickly; All is vanity"
