some years ago (like 10 I think) I flashed the router and it was working without issues. over the last let's say 3 or 4 years I've seen some issues here and there. the last 2 years it has been absolutely problematic. I see things like my uptime resetting (box is not being bounced by me on the admin page, nothing else on my network shows fluctuation even on the power strip where this unit and 3 other ones are connected), my wireless hiccups, etc.
I was looking at replacing it thinking the hardware was breaking down but in gathering what I needed on the replacement I stumbled across the peacock post. again, I flashed the unit a long time ago. while I did read it back then I have long since forgotten things.
my questions are:
• I have updated the unit a few times (really after problems started appearing) without following the 30/30/30 steps. if dd-wrt is applied to a box, is that step required to upgrade say the march 22 version to the nov 23?
• since there have been several upgrades without the 30/30/30, would performing an upgrade with it now hurt/harm things?
• the 30/30/30 completely blows out all configs? I would not be able to restore from a backup all the settings like the mac filtering list?

Moved to the correct forum
I would suggest upgrading to the latest build 54604, and after upgrading and after a reboot reset to defaults and put settings in manually to start fresh
thank you for the prompt responses and the moving to the proper location. I thought it was correct but until 1 am I was heading down a different path on things. never (obviously) really researched that detail. I see I have some reading ahead of me before trying to flash the unit. quick glances, I remember it being a v1 but where on the bottom do I confirm that? the way I have it installed, let's say it's inconvenient to access/get a picture with the info so I'd like to make sure I'm not setting myself up for problems.
also, I would just use the .bin file to upgrade, reboot and restore defaults (I'll have to screenshot a number of configs) to come up to the r54604 build? I don't need to use the .img file since I already have moved to dd-wrt, correct?
WNDR4300 is 'bout same as WNDR3700v4
should have NO problems with new builds...
...however you might do a simple reset thru its webif or telnet/ssh if coming from very old build.
if you get it really mucked up just TFTP to it like any netgear unit
