Error code 401 as to my previous thread I closed the webui and still getting DNS Probe Possible Error, I go to the syslog and in bright red is Error code 401 Bad login and saying the default is router. I followed This https://svn.dd-wrt.com/browser/src/router/httpd/httpd.c#L488

The only thing I could find in there relating to the error code is send_error(conn_fp, 0, 401, live_translate(conn_fp, "share.bad_request"), NULL, live_translate(conn_fp, "share.no_wifi_access"));

The Router im Using is a R6700v3 flashed directly from Factory to DD-WRT using the Factorys WebUI Updater

And again, this error will be given 99 if not 100% of the time when you first open the browser and point it to the webUI. Someone got overzealous and deleted or hid the original thread you replied to, unfortunately. But to clarify here since you obviously cannot accept that this is "normal" or "nothing new":

https://duckduckgo.com/?q=Error+Code+401+site:forum.dd-wrt.com

It's default behavior and will not be changed. If you can't understand the debug messages in the syslog and why they are there, then that is not anyone's problem but your own.

So you the Linux redditor equivalent around here? Who said it being abnormal? Im wondering why Im getting DNS Probe Error I look into the Syslog and the error message in red is Code 401. All settings are default factory settings, it is a question relating to DD-WRT and it is a general question of why is this happening. So what category should this go into if not General questions?

That error has nothing to do with a DNS probe error, whatsoever. DNS probe errors are likely due to your configuration (of dnsmasq, among other things). Perhaps sharing your configuration screenshots from the main setup and services pages (for starters) would help us help you figure out what is misconfigured.

Here is the Setup settings

The only thing I added after a factory reset was Static DNS which are from Quad9 and cloudflare but it didn't fix the issue either.

I don't see your services page in that mess of hard-to-read screenshots. Use one page per linked image / attachment, please. I only needed to see the main setup page and services page.

CTRL + Z + Mouse Wheel and using your arrow keys/mouse and side scroll bars to navigate, and you said setup page so I got you everything in that tab that wasn't disabled.

For one, you are using an older build without ignore WAN DNS. Not knowing which build of DD-WRT you flashed as well as what version of dnmasq is at play here, The only thing I can suggest besides upgrading to 47745 is to uncheck "Query In Strict Order", but I can almost guarantee you that isn't it. It's probably something to do with your browser(s) and how they are configured to use https/secure DNS -and- the fact that you are running a build that doesn't have the full working "Ignore WAN DNS" feature.

401 is often caused by cached passwords in your browser. so the browser attempts to login with bad login data. this happens for instance if you had a router with the same ip connected before but with different login data. so clear your browser cache. and let the browser ask for your password. another bad issue could be if you use something like a password manager which tries constantly to login with bad login data. consider also that after 5 bad attempts you get blocked for 5 minutes. so now another idea. the router you mentioned has also configurations left from the original manufacturer firmware. this config is not compatible with dd-wrt (including password data). i hope you did a full config reset after flashing. normally this isnt neccessary, but in some cases it is

So for upgrading DD-WRT to the version you suggest should I use the CHK or the BIN file and use the inGUI updater?

I do have a password manager but it does not autologin or even auto popup I have to manually click it open and then it will auto fill. I use Bitwarden not self hosted. I did reset the router via the button in the back. The browser I use is Brave.

At this point it seems freshtomato or whatever its called would be a better solution. Im just dual running routers this router is being fed from a Gigabit Ethernet Splitter I was planning on setting up this router as a VPN only. It did have this feature built in OEM but you had to manually install OpenVPN drivers on each device which some devices do not allow.

The .chk file is for initial flash, usually. The .bin file is for upgrading via webUI. It is best to use a browser with no add-ons enabled; private browsing mode is usually even more helpful. I personally use portable browsers so most of the cache and other issues do not apply.

Sounds to me like impatience; you didn't need to do a reset save and except if any issues arose after upgrading. Is your Windows PC showing that it has an IP address in the 192.168.1.x subnet? Did you wait long enough? Probably going to have to run the Windows network troubleshooter, wait, or cycle your ethernet adapter to disabled, then enabled. FYI: 47822 just dropped, which an important fix in it is related to VAPs (guest wifi).

Moved to Broadcom as this is router specific so that it can better be searched.

No response on it possibly being a Windows-side problem.
