Downloaded the current factory to ddwrt bin file, did a factory reset before installing...upgraded using bin file, router rebooted after install but booted back into linksys gui instead of ddwrt....any direction would be appreciated

Read the second link I posted, the big bold red letters. You could probably also peruse this forum area's build release threads. That build was not a good build, and likely, the image may have been too big to flash to begin with. There is a LOT of useful information in the first link I posted, which is a sticky at the top of this forum. Simply put, do not use the router database, and do some research. I don't make specific notes, but the information is here in the forum as far as what builds are good, which ones a junk, etc. _________________ "Life is but a fleeting moment, a vapor that vanishes quickly; All is vanity"

Yep, and as I suspected and thought I remembered correctly, it was in the big middle of when firmware images were too big to flash to the smaller partition and you have to have a previous build already installed to flash via CLI or use a workaround to get it to flash:

Exactly the same problem here... After flashing my WRT1900ACS v2 with Build 40559 the router boots back to Linksys... I suppose I have to find a better build.
I had the same problem once I switched from the original linksys firmware, before writing an image with ddwrt you should clean the registers with ccleaner and only after you start writing the ddwrt software.
And try using waterfox or microsoft edge when writing a ddwrt firmware, this works for me and yes you shouldn't have other active extensions like adblock ... _________________ Internet provider https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RCS_%26_RDS 1Gbps

I managed to install the latest build r42681 from Linksys factory firmware. In a few minutes I will found out if it works. _________________ Linksys WRT1200AC v2, WRT1900ACS v2

FWIW, an old build that plays well on that router, say for an initial install, is 40009. For a reasonably new one, so far I'm having decent results with 42926 from mid-April, which is listed on the download sites as 42925 (no reason... happens sometimes). I think I recall that it may have issues if you have Windows machines sharing drives on the network. If that matters, check the new-build thread carefully. The newer builds have mostly (I'm not caught up browsing the newer new-build threads) had more problems discussed in the new-build threads than this one has had.
If you plan to set up wireguard, see if you can find a very, very new build that is not giving Marvell people problems, because the wireguard interface has been evolving rapidly.
Whatever you do, do not flash ANYTHING without reading its new-build thread first. People have bricked routers by blindly assuming the latest is the greatest. Often it isn't. Even these "unbrickable" two-partition routers can be bricked by a build that is seriously enough malformed. Go back and read the Marvell new-build thread for 08-31-2019-r40863 for some light but alarming reading. _________________ 2x Netgear XR500 and 3x Linksys WRT1900ACSv2 on 53544: VLANs, VAPs, NAS, station mode, OpenVPN client (AirVPN), wireguard server (AirVPN port forward) and clients (AzireVPN, AirVPN, private), 3 DNSCrypt providers via VPN.
