I hope you had reset the nvram after 3 years and reconfigured manually... Just to kick the gremlins in the jingle balls.. I mean bells.
That said newer builds after 47822 will be better all around. (famous last words)

Take care now. Alrighty then.
i was trying most of the builds all those 3 years, except the last 6 months, which i was using factory Firmware just happened that all previous builds had problems for my EA8500 no matter if i was using it as AP or as a main Router, the result was random reboot sometimes 5-6 every hour!! anyway, now i have done a clean install from factory, with reset to factory settings before the flash! and seems that this firmware is stable!

Random reboots started again!! started a game and in the middle it rebooted twice!! seems i have to live with it!! EA-8500 is the only router i have paid so much to get just a crappy factory firmware and random reboots on every custom!!!
This could well be a hardware failure e.g. a failing power supply.
i would say you are right if this problem was present to factory firmware too, but its not! seems present only in DDWRT and in kernel 4.14 openwrt (19.7) its not affecting kernel 5 openwrt (21.02) !!! it rebooted but also corrupted all connected hard disks!! really annoying!!!
I have an EA8500 running for months without a problem and I know others have too
maybe my PPPOE connection is the problem, or the use i am doing is putting extra wight on my Cpu which leads to the reboot, bus as i see most of the time its on 0.0.0 usage and system temps are very good!!

labrok DDWRT firmware is more power demanding than factory firmware, you problem smells like bad PSU, change it and happy days...
I had a second hand R7000 with bad PSU same issue, same behaviour, stock was ok, but DDWRT reboot's on heavy load...than noticed it was not using the original PSU, got the proper PSU problem sorted...now it's running in a busy coffee 24/7 near by one train station ..
funny, still on an old KONG build _________________ Atheros
