So I checked the DD-WRT website for an idea of which router I should buy to install DD-WRT. The Wiki recommended the Archer C7 and the support database says rev 2, 3, and 4 are supported. It doesn't mention any other revisions! Great, I'll buy an Archer C7, I think.
So now I've paid the money and I go to the page for the Archer C7 and... "V5 is not and probably will never be supported." And I have a V5. Thank you soooo much, I am now out of pocket and I can't install DD-WRT.
Your wiki should have a big warning about the V5 and the support database should have rev 5 NOT SUPPORTED.

Welcome to dd-wrt.
This is a WIP forum. Always "Work in Progress".
In spite of being here for some time ... and doing necessary reading ... I too had landed up in similar situation with my R6400v2. The "officially" recommended build killed the 5 GHz SSID, and trying to get back to stock almost killed my router.
This is where a "choice" comes up.
I chose to understand how to de-brick my router from semi-bricked condition ... result I learned things I never knew
I was not the only one with this predicament. We formed a group and some of us donated to buy a router and send it to Kong ... result: we had a solution about a month after I bought my router.
* You could return your router (v5) and get a different one.
* You can form a community of similar people and see what can be done together. Maybe put in a request to the devs to work on your router and help you out.
* For sure, demanding why you were not informed in advance is not going to do anyone any good. dd-wrt is not a product that was advertised and sold to us. Also, this is not a service center or a grievance cell.
... and if you find yourself all alone and there is no other V5 user to form a group with - Alozaros has already posted his comment above mine. _________________ PROFESSIONAL STUDENT my.Mistakes ∝ my.Learning ... provided I have the patience & persistence to learn
Tplink are quite annoying with their versioning of hardware. They often use completely different chips in different versions. Later versions often seem worse than earlier ones... Makes getting a model from them quite hard.

The archer C7 rev 2, 3 and for are supported, meaning any other version are not.
Must the support database tell which versions are not supported when it already tells you which are. _________________ I am far from a guru, I'm barely a novice.
