As we know the devices experienced problems after the Kernel 6.1 update, I would like to know which version of Kenel 4.9 is the most stable on wifi and which irbalance and SFE work correctly?

I hit those issues too (Ethernel network connection just drops after a while). Is it now recommended not to upgrade to kernel 6.x for WRT3200ACM until these will be sorted out or some specific steps are needed to make it work?

r53633 seems to be the best for me Very Happy

DD-WRT v3.0-r53633 std (10/14/23)
Kernel VersionLinux 4.9.337 #4019 SMP Sat Oct 14 06:44:30 +07 2023 armv7l

The new kernel is far less stable and slower it's more of a canary build really.

It would be a great idea to get a stable build every few months.
But I guess with so many routers a stable build is a bit of a dream.

I am on 53915 and had a random crash and reboot ~16 hours ago after ~33 hours uptime, but unfortunately was not capturing logs when it happened. Tailing /var/log/messages and waiting to see if it happens again. I had several days' uptime on 53815.

Just reporting that r54652 started working pretty well with kernel 6.1.69 on WRT3200ACM.

OK, it happened again. It just took a few days for it to hang. So the issue isn't solved.

Are there any new clues what happens with kernel 6.x that causes these periodic random hangs?

I thought someone had posted serial output *somewhere* (not sure if it was on a Marvell or Qualcomm/Atheros device), but I am currently running mine on 54700 alpha with SFE disabled as I am now on a 100Mbit/s down/20Mbit/s up connection and because it's randomly rebooted enough times at the wrong time to become an issue. I would suspect that serial logs would be the most helpful to determine what is going on, as this could be an issue with SFE in conjunction with the 6.1 kernel that has not been addressed upstream.

Found some info on it here: https://wiki.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Hardware#Flow_Acceleration.2C_SFE_and_Cut-Through_Forwarding

I'll check what happens if I disable it.

UPDATE: I disabled SFE in DD-WRT settings and restarted the router. I get fully saturated download / upload gigabit from my ISP using Speed Test on my WRT3200ACM, so not sure if it really harmed anything. May be regular Linux network stack in 6.x already improved in the first place.

This could be useful too for future updates: Linux 6.8 Network Optimizations Can Boost TCP Performance For Many Concurrent Connections By ~40%.

I'd guess it's worth re-evaluating whether old assumptions about default kernel networking are valid with recent kernels.

Hopefully that will remove any need for out of tree networking hacks.

Wireguard performance is down 20% with new kernels.
