Thank you for that reply; it helps tremendously. And yes your memory is correct for the 2.4ghz radio / WLAN1 for the R9000. I’m going to update my firmware to the latest one, it seems promising. I think I’ll disable “query dns in strict order” before I do the update though. Thanks again, cheers.

BS has fixed the issue as of 47489 and with the next public build the qam 256 will be back.
I have two tablets that are wifi-5, wave 2, that see 400mbps on 2.4 and I use this feature all the time. Likely as wifi-6 proliferates through new devices you'll be able to take advantage, but so many devices won't/don't right now. It only mattered to me because I can actually take advantage of it. _________________ FORUM RULES
My guess manufacturers support this in their varied equipment where 2.4GHz is concerned... Otherwise its a big fat lie. Like phones or their own Laptops and wifi solutions, e.g. Asus. (Testing required)
yes, but it should be added that the high modulation is only achieved over short distances.
on longer distances with a worse connection it drops back to 256 / 64 / whatever.
1024-QAM is already available for IEEE 802.11ac (out of spec) - called Nitro-QAM
But practically not supported by any Wifi5 devices (there is no hardware implementation on chip level).
The same game will be played with future WLAN standards - who knows how it will be called "Plutonium-QAM"

It's very clear that Wifi-6 is a shit show and ath11k drivers have been an issue too reading on some of the other forums....This is why even on the cusp of 2022 The best routers are still the ones using a QCA998x setup on both radios. The issue is becoming that the market is being flooded with BCM routers and very few QCA ones. It's why I went with an Ebay R9000 again for $65- you can't beat that value even if the wifi will die eventually.
Back on topic, sort of, with wifi-6- OFDM has proven to be a shit show too and I haven't seen anything new from Tim Higgins on SMB talking about where things stand on OFDM being sorted...
So for now we wait for new development by BS... _________________ FORUM RULES

On the subject, not many people know what is a QAM or all those Beam technologies, nor AX6900 and ect....they get the bait from the marketing trick when buy a new router (for a house price)...and believe those work out of the box...and it turns out its very proprietary drama and you have to pay extra like a boss to be able to touch those...speed promised...not to mention 90% of the WiFi used this days is from a phone or tablets with shit-show wifi clients...
At the end of the day, a rich client of mine, until i've found out, ran his R9000 more than 2 years in 20HT mixed mode, with auto channel...and never complained..."WiFi is fast very fast"...

BS said he would make a build for no radio's, but I have not pestered him for anything since I just bought replacements instead. I can ask again to see if he will make a no radio check build like Kong did. _________________ FORUM RULES
yeahuh TurboQAM (QAM256) is back
I don't use it unless I connect the two EA8500wirelessly with the 2.4 and I don't
really have a reason to do that these days but it's good that she shows now.
Something is up b/c there is no build for the R9000... something didn't build out... nothing to test for us
Don't know nothing 'bout no R9000 but the WNDR3700v4 is always about last to build these days for some silly reason
then again Mr. BS may not be compiling for all just now --- prolly will release new builds very soon

The build scripts run in a certain order, not sure if there is a set order, but if a build script errors out, it errors out and requires human intervention. It is still taking quite a bit of time, even with the new build server. _________________ "Life is but a fleeting moment, a vapor that vanishes quickly; All is vanity"
