Hey guys,

After I changed my router name to ~(*.*)~ I am now unable to login to the router to change any settings.

When I access 192.168.1.1 it shows me the regular login page and when I try to enter any tabs it asks me for login which is normal but when I try to enter credentials it:

1. Has always been for me [admin, admin] and when I try to access it doesn't let me through. Going through telnet returns "incorrect login".

2. Has always been autofilled by chrome and now doesn't autofill

3. Can't reset the router by pressing and holding reset button.

4. Internet access through PPPOE still running

I need to fix this.

Thanks in advance!

Version: DD-WRT v3.0-r36527 std (08/09/18)
Router: TP-Link TL-WR940ND v4/v5

Press and hold reset button for ~10-20 seconds on powerup or while powered up and reconfigure after setting a new password.

Well, maybe you entered username for password or caps lock or whatever.

Doing that locks the router with the lock led Icon and changes nothing.

Holding the WPS button on power up unlocks it

No but this would make sense if login is bugged because of an illegal character.

How can I fix it?

Well, if the WPS or Reset button has no effect it is probably time for TTL serial access.

Alright man thank you for that.

I'll mark it as solved for now but I won't attempt the serial access even if it looks easy. I'm just worried I'll break something. Midterm season right now.

I appreciate the time you took to help me.

I might try when I really need to access my router.

Thanks again.

just bear in mind you may have been hacked so leaving it may not be such a good idea.
Main question, did you have any ports open to the outside world or UPNP enabled? Using admin as a password is never ideal.

Well if it was, and I don't think it was enabled, then it's too late to go back now.

I'll try to TTL serial access after midterms.

Should be a fun project.

Say, could I perhaps flash the OEM firmware instead of the open wrt firmware?

You are sure holding Reset button for 10 seconds while it is running (after a full boot) does nothing?

I just noticed this router has a TFTP recovery mode. Double check your model, version and region.
