This one:

Which to me, looks utterly identical to the R7000P, except for a USB port:

I don't have it, I just ordered it from Amazon Warehouse. It was a crash and dent model at a price too good to pass up, so I ordered it.

Should I cancel the order? It looks like some people have successfully hacked it and made it work, but I note that Kong has stopped producing updates since then? So I need to try to use the BS version, probably with a new install method?

Sounds real. Sketchy. ..but if it can be done, I can do it.

Oh! Admins, my old account crogonint, is so old I forgot what email account it used. Um.. my bad?

Anyway, I've got a whole family that willl be using this thing to stream YouTube, Amazon Prime, Fortnight and ToonTown at the same time I'm trying to remote repair client business machines in another state.. So yeah, it's just gotta work by the time I'm done with it. Wink

If someone can point me to a current step-by-step or maybe a crystal ball, I'd be much obliged. Very Happy

Umm.. What is this nonsense, broken english?

Mistake! There was an attempt of an automatic insert of the message in a forum. Your message is not posted. Try still times who knows - can it will turn out? Still probably, that you too long wrote the message - then pass to page back, copy the text, update page, insert the copied text and press button "Send".

Here are some active mirrors. https://wikidevi.wi-cat.ru/Main_Page | https://deviwiki.com/

If you must go Broadcom, go R7000 (non P) otherwise I highly suggest going Qualcomm Atheros.

A7v5/C7v5, R7500v2, EA8500, R7800, R9000. Search R7500v2 or R7800 via offerup, ebay, craigslist etc.

The broken English message is because you took too long to make a post and it timed out.

If it happens again, click the back button. To avoid this problem, use preview button before submit.

It also happens if two people hit submit at the same time.

Alright.. after an amusing day of surfing for web bargains I ended up with this one:

https://www.amazon.com/Linksys-MU-MIMO-Dual-Band-Gigabit-EA8500/dp/B00UVN21DK/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=EA8500&qid=1606090737&s=pc&sr=1-1

Specs look just as good as the R7500v2, but for half the price.

Am I good, or should I cancel that one and spend the extra $50-70?

Well, first thing is do not use Amazon as those prices are way too high.

Second, you narrowed in on the router that's hardest to factory flash (stock firmware is encrypted). If you don't do any research, then you won't know which revision to get and what visual cues to look out for ensuring a serial header is present.

If you have zero experience soldering, prying open plastic casing with tools after removing screws, or TTL serial flashing then EA8500 is not the model for you.

I put two models in bold for various reasons, but one being ease of flash and recovery. Offerup, eBay, craigslist, mercari, local listings etc. these will be your best chance for a low price.

Here is an example from today, but I don't know your region. https://www.ebay.com/itm/164522546980

Yeah, the cheapest R7500v2 and R7800 I could find were both on Amazon for $150. That EA8500 on Amazon is Refurbished for $78. Winner Winner, chicken dinner! Very Happy

I can open up plastic cases and solder all day, no worries there. I've got two whole spools of desoldering tape for when I screw up. Wink

I WROTE the instructions on how to flash one of the first smart phones ever. some Virgin Mobile something or other, so I'm not terribly concerned there. With clear instructions, I'm sure I can manage it. My problem is that I annoy people by asking every question I can think of before I click 'Send'; not clicking 'Send', then asking 'How do I unbrick my thing?' Wink

I mean, I tried REALLY hard to find a cheap R7800, because it's got a faster CPU than the others, but I couldn't find one. If you've got a line on one, let me know. Smile

Edit: I mis-spoke.. I wrote the guide on how to Unlock the user area on the Virgin Mobile phone (not flash it). It came locked to only the apps that Virgin put on it. Wink

Well, give me a region so I can better understand shipping costs etc. My upper limit when searching online is generally $40 for R7500v2/EA8500 and $80 for R7800. Some say that's too low to be realistic, but somehow I keep finding them.

Once again check offerup, ebay...

Eastern New Mexico. You're awesome! Kindly don't waste too much time on it though, I already checked ebay, offerup, and etc. You know what I didn't check? Newegg. Doh!
