EA8500
DD-WRTv3.0-r39830M kongat (05/21/19)
Linux 4.9.177 #409 SMP Tue May 21 08:18:24 CEST 2019 armv7l

No reset -- GUI install over BS r39827
just the spare EA8500 ... switch / ovpn server / samba share
I did turn his radios on and yea everything is working very well.
I really do like the ovpn server on this guy Smile

prolly be an excellent build for the main router but just for fun imma still running BS bloated firmware for now on it Twisted Evil

oh, and before you ask --- looky 'here'

#

And just because I'm already wide awake I done a little side by side comparison of 'iw phy0 info' and 'iw phy1 info' on EA8500 between BS and Kong.
amongst the whole mess the only difference is:

Kong r39830M
Code:

Supported interface modes:
       * managed
       * AP
       * AP/VLAN
       * monitor
       * mesh point
#

BS r39827
Code:

Supported interface modes:
       * managed
       * AP
       * AP/VLAN
       * monitor
       * mesh point
       * TDMA

you can google 'TDMA' if you want to know what it is Razz

A few notes, BS obviously changed the th10k fw in his build, but did not yet commit the fiwmware to svn. I recompiled and tested snmp yeserday, it was broken. It works now. I also added ipv6 nat module, per request.

Hey (King)Kong.

Just clarifying , is the new ath10k fw compiled into this build? In your opinion is it a notable improvement?

Thanks for all that you do.

For the ea8500 it is not updated yet, once BS commits it I'll update the ea8500 build.

this official final release 10.4.1 fw (qca99x0/9980) improves devices' stability and compatibility. it fixed my internet drop issue

it's not yet in this kong build but should be in the next as BS makes the commit

OK, seems like the cause for the ipsec issue is a change in strongswan, if strongswan.conf is not available yet, then it will create an empty cert and since I only check if the cert exists it will not overwrite the zero size cert and everything after that fails.

By the way it took 20min for openssl to create the freeradius cert, creating the strongswan certs only takes a few seconds. Not sure why openssl is so greedy.

updated r39830M

EA8500
DD-WRT v3.0-r39830M kongat (05/23/19)
Linux 4.9.177 #411 SMP Thu May 23 15:35:21 CEST 2019 armv7l

WAP / ovpn server / samba share
and yea the ovpn server works just fine on this. Its ovpn clients DNS uses same as what is set on main router ..... unbound or whatever has always
been good with ovpn setup on switch/WAP.

yea it now has the newer ath10k firmware for EA8500
just a few of 'my notes' if interested.

I plan to put this on the main router but will do a complete reconf becasue I don't want any old BS bloated firmware on it...
...good thing I have an old backup main router config about the same with its own power so I can let it fully boot and just swap the ethernet cables.
Nothing is interrupted but maybe 5 seconds

I got r39830M kongat (05/23/19) on main EA8500 now.
reset and conf all from scratch
tis all seems to be working fine

http://www.dslreports.com/speedtest/50026555
http://www.dslreports.com/speedtest/50026617

I'm using unbound and yea he just as fast as any other DNS resolver.
To get its ovpn server clients to also use unbound and have local DNS I had to do exact same as 'I posted here' and all is good Cool
