Has anyone considered/looked into this? I use it for work, and it seems like it would be easy to adapt the DD-WRT source for it.
It's been a long time since I downloaded the DD-WRT source, though, and I remember hearing about some GUI obfuscation to prevent other companies from stealing the software. I wonder if that would work well with Yocto/OpenEmbedded.
I share your idea. I also have a good experience with Yocto at work.
Some time ago, I tried to compile dd-wrt for my router myself. I invested some time and went through very little documentation (at least at that time) I found on the web. In the end, I haven't managed to compile the whole image (though I have successfully compiled a module I was particularly interested in). Although I appreciate a lot all the effort of the developers around dd-wrt and like it the project, my general impression was that only few people have a working toolchain/dirty patches/custom configuration files and are able to recompile the full image. IMHO it's a pity, because a solid build system would open development to more users.
