Yeah since early 2017 I think he has been putting the monthly builds there and from time to time he chooses one and puts it in the root folder.
I didn't see any reason to update my R7000, not even for Kracks. You have that patch already so if I were you I wouldn't do anything.
30771 is BrainSlayer, I just realized. last I checked they were unstable, 9 months ago. Is it OK to flash them now? or are there any other things I need to do. I had always just stuck with Kong. So that was surprising to me.
30700 and 30800 and 30800-2 are the latest <kong> builds in that area.
BS build were unstable and bricking routers on the inclusion of SFE patch, that was in the range of 32xxx to 34xxx. I wouldn't flash anything in that range. Except Kong. Long time dd-wrt user. I ran an old version of Kong firmware on my R7000 since 2014 without too much issue. Last week I tried updating to the latest code and am running into issues where the wireless stops working after a day or so of uptime. After the first time this happened (1.5 days after flashing), I re-flashed to the previous release v3.0-r35030M kongac (2/19/1 and did the nvram erase before and after flashing as well. After 2 days uptime I woke up this morning and the wifi is down again, have to power cycle. Nothing special in the config super basic. Even disabled 5GHz to try to isolate issue. Any help? New firmware less stable than release from 2014? That one I would barely restart the router ever.

You 're not alone on this.
After more than a year of running dd-wrt on my R7000 it has become almost unusable:
1. wifi signal is poor (it always was with dd-wrt on R7000)
2. wifi speed gets worst during the day and I need to reboot
3. internet access is lost although in both wifi and ethernet, but if I ping via ssh, the router has access on the web
A typical day for me is:
- Get up at 07:00 and reboot the router because of 3
- At 20:00-22:00 I notice extremely low speeds over wifi (and only over wifi - ethernet runs fine) and I have to reboot once again because of 2
Unfortunately syslog doesn't capture anything regarding the above.
I don't remember the last kong build that runs well. I believe that it was from 2017 and unfortunately I don't have it.
Latest stable (2018-05-31) is causing me troubles with PPPOE connection being almost unable to connect and with all latest testing versions I get the behavior above.
Until I find a solution and as I am not alone at this place and get constant complaints about internet connection, I decided to test vortex. To my surprise, not only wifi is very stable, but the reception is far better, especially on the 5G network. In addition my samba shared usb 3 disk got significantly better read/write performance (approx. 30mb/sec write with dd-wrt and 45-50mb/sec with vortex).
However I still hope that dd-wrt becomes usable again, as the features it provides make it a unique firmware and I already miss it.
@codetester, vlzetko, this thread is for advising with recommended builds that work for almost every R7000. Well you can check my comment at the top of this page. The first thing I noticed was that my settings were not saved after reboot. After googling about it I realized that xwrt-vortex had messed up my CFE so I had to fix it.
After that, I reflashed 35030 and I erased nvram.
I haven't noticed anything weird until now and I will report back if it will be stable for me.
If not, I will proceed with 31980 as per your advice.

I can confirm that the mentioned firmware version has been proved very stable for my needs.
I consider a good stable build if I can get over 30 days uptime. I've had builds working 2 or 3 weeks and then issues like No Internet, No GUI/SSH/Telnet Access and a Power Cycle would bring it back up. I do use many services in these Builds my signature below lists them in BLUE. I normally don't upgrade unless it's a security fix/update with my services.

I'm not sure there's a best release, but Kong's 11/15/17 (33770M) has been rock steady for the R7000. Pretty general use of several devices using basic wifi and a usb nas.
I suppose an update is eventual when that version's kernel support ends.

I have to agree that many of the newer builds hasn't really worked reliably for me. I have a pretty typical setup and doesn't run anything fancy.
I have since rolled back to 36440 and so far everything is pretty good for me except WiFi will get dropped out in the middle of the night like 3 am where no one is really actively online.
Now that I am hearing more and more about 35550 and 36070, I may roll back even further and see.

Brown outs in your AC Power can cause strange issues. I have my network devices on either UPS (Uninterrupted Power Suply) or at least Line Conditioners.
