I've found the solution for working together ESP8266 and WRT3200ACM:

1- Disable Wireless Physical Interface ath1 [2.4 Ghz TurboQAM] --> INCOMPATIBILITY

2- Use the ath2
--> AP
--> Mixed
--> Channel: Full 20mhz
--> Channel: 1 - 6 or 11

ENJOY !!!

Don't forget to set the ath0 to 5ghz only... Sometimes ESP8266 try to connect to

802.11n is a 2.4ghz and 5ghz protocol......

THE ath1 is BUGGED !!!!!!!!

Many thanks for the info regarding esp8266 and the 3200. I switched to ATH2 as suggested and am running flawlessly with multiple esp8266 devices which I use for temperature/humidity monitor and control. I also have a couple of cameras on the same link which seem to work fine.I suspect that if I wanted to get better range and monitor my link, it might be a problem but the devices are working well. I have upgraded to r36168 and the problem still exists.

Have done a lot more experimenting and found that the Sonoff devices (ESP8266) have no problem connecting and staying connected with wmm disabled. Unfortunately wmm disabled causes problems with most other devices. I resolved this by adding a virtual interface where I now have two 2.4 ssid's on my 3200's. One interface has wmm enabled and the the other disabled. All devices now connect and stay that way without problem. In one case I have three Sonoff devices and six ip cameras running on one 3200 flawlessly.

And I wish I had found your post 10 hours ago..doh! Spent the entire day trying to figure out why DD-WRT would not connect my ESP8266 device but the same 3200ACM flashed with OpenWRT would work.

I have no experience with OpenWRT but as far as I could see, it was using the same Wifi radio in ath1. In fact, I could not find ath2 in OpenWRT - maybe they don't even support it.

This leads me to think there's nothing wrong with the radio itself but something about DD-WRT (v3.0-r37442) is not right.

Anyway, MUCH appreciate you sharing the solution.

OpenWrt will have the same problem as it's an unresolved issue with the open source wifi driver mwlwifi.

Disable ath2. Enable ath1 interface and set Advanced Settings WMM Support to disable.

Try a different ath1 Wireless Network Mode (examples: G-Only, BG-Mixed or NG-Mixed). Save. Reboot.

Check your syslog for spam auth request and deauthenticated due to inactivity. If they are gone, problem solved.

If not, try a different Wireless Network Mode then Save and Reboot. Also disable TKIP if it's checked in Wireless Security.

I am under the impression 1900 and 3200 series are far more affected by this issue.

There are also lots of different ESP model variants, revisions and firmware.

ACM3200 for sure is.

It can be worked around to an extent by using a virtual interface on ATH2.

The 1200s and 1900s are more identical hardware-wise. The 3200 and 32x, same. But let's just group the 1900s and 3200 together for fun, huh? Yeah.
