Hi,

The current SNMP daemon is huge. For this reason a lot of small devices doesn't have SNMP support, or it's removed.

So, I suggest to migrate to "mini-snmpd":
http://troglobit.github.io/project/mini-snmpd/

This is a great piece of code. Very small and fully compatible with code using regular "snmpd".

I hope the developer of DD-WRT will consider to migrate to it and add SNMP support to all devices.

Regards.

Hi,

Any idea if this project "mini-snmpd" can be included in DD-WRT?

Hi,

I'm sad no one's interested in this! Sad

I don't understand how it can be that a tool designed to consume very few resources, and which is necessary, is not included in DD-WRT.

Why do you need SNMP when you could just telnet/ssh into DD-WRT and issue commands? Wink

I dunno, but is SNMP mainly for corporations with huge number of devices? Most DD-WRT users are home users!

And the status page of DD-WRT is already showing much information.

Anyway, if someone had the TIME and KNOW-HOW to integrate mini-snmpd with various builds of DD-WRT...

Because I use some monitoring tools that use SNMP for getting graphs.

A lot of home users use DD-WRT with advanced features.

Think on this: For years the SNMP support has included in DD-WRT. However, some years ago it has removed on devices with small Flash. So the only reason for removing it it's the size consumed in the ROM. No other reason involved, as it continues to be inside the last releases for other devices.

So, my suggestion it's simple: replace the quite OLD and ANCIENT snmpd daemon, and replace it with a FRESH and NEW mini-snmpd that it's perfect for this project.

As the configuration file is compatible between snmpd and mini-snmpd, for BrianSlayer will be very easy to migrate to it. I'm sure this change will be effortless.

Hi,

This package (mini snmpd) is already included in OpenWRT:
https://github.com/openwrt/packages/tree/master/net/mini_snmpd

You can check that no spacial patches or other strange config are required to run on this other firmware.

So, please think you on if it's time to migrate from the old SNMPd to this new mini-SNMPd. Wink

Regards.
