VPN issues

Hi I am currently running OS X server 10.6.6 behind DD-WRT mini on an Linksys WRT-310N

The OS X server has L2TP services enabled but cannot be reached even though I have forwarded UDP ports 500, 1701 and 4500. I have even enabled VPN pass-thru options with no luck.

If I got my client to upgrade to DD-WRT custom paid version, does this offer better abilities to allow VPN to his OS X server behind the DD-WRT?

I found this link that mentioned an upgrade but does not specify which version.

why should it work out of the box with the specials...? first find out the problem why its not working correctly.
