Try switching the wireless mode on your access point to "N Only".
By the way, does anyone know if there is a workaround to get N-Only to work?
EDIT: Nevermind. I figured it out. Switched to mixed N and G mode, 40mhz wide, and AES WPA algorithms. Now connected at 300Mbps! _________________ WRT54GS v2.1

I never replied my experience with 21286 (sorry abt that)
I performed the same steps as Armethyst suggested: upgraded stock firmware, and flashed router with dd-wrt.
I have a couple of iPhone devices and an apple tv 2 (also connected via wifi).
The only odd thing that I noticed is that when setting up the router with a "NG-mixed" network mode I had several dropouts on the apple tv, and also while trying to stream media from youtube on my laptop it did not work.
After that I changed the mode to "Mixed" and since then it has been working stable, but I wanted to know if someone had experienced a similar problem, does this behavior fit in the WLAN problem that you have described before?
Just bought a HW revsion 1.11 SN: 13xxxx a few days ago. Used the factory-to-ddwrt.bin and then the latest webflash version both dated 13.03.2014 (webflash Version --> r23720).
Tried the whole day but didn't get any WAN IP address.

Good evening DD-WRT,
I just updated my dusty old TL-WR1043ND v1.8 with the latest beta firmware to date 10-15-2019-r41328 via patch cable.
I experienced no issue with this firmware version. I'm planning to use this device as a client bridge.

I also updated via web GUI. What I meant with patch cable was literally using it to connect to the router.
This device is currently being used as a client bridge to support non WiFi devices with LAN ports. It is extremely fast and stable for it's age.
I appreciate the support for this particular model by DD-WRT.
Side question:
Did anyone manage to set up a OpenVPN on this device?
If so, is there a modern approach of a guide or knowledge base, that someone could share?
