It was not DD-WRT issue. Hey, TP-LINK, do buggy boot loader. Boot loader is not a firmware, it starts the system and do it buggy.

It was an issue with neither DD-WRT nor TP-LINK. It was a logic that DD-WRT didn't follow to this moment. If you have a boot loader that shuts down wan port, you must have a firmware that makes a check if it is down so that it turns it on.

The DD-WRT FW works in same logic for all types of routers with small specific differences. One and only one boot loader was changed - for newest TL-WR1043ND. And it's FW was changed too because it was agreed. It seams to be catch for most popular router buyers: don't re-flash router (it will cancel the warranty) or buy new one. Wink

Not one of other supported routers need to open WAN port after the boot process. The 1043ND is the most popular device of TP-Link. Why the boot loader for other routers was not changed? Not 941, not 841 was not touched. Why?

For L2TP connection to ISP the best release was 18777.
For DHCP - last two (20119 and 20453)seems be OK.
But you should read about WAN port issue for new routers. It may be with v1.8 too.

2012 versions have wan port issues and you would become one of the last dozens asking how to revert back to factory. So don't use them.

2013-01-01 build has wan port fixed and the router is working as a router but introduces a bug that LAN+WAN LED's not working (that's it, you plug a cable and the diode does not light). If you think you would survive without lan+wan leds working, then flash 2013-01-01 build, otherwise, wait until leds are fixed.

Thanks Guys, what i'm trying to do, is use the 1043ND as a repeater, AP, Repeater Bridge ??? not sure which, i'm reading up on it,
http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Linking_Routers To extend the wireless range of my network, with the 1043ND's 3 external aerials, and connect wired and wireless clients, and 1 USB, i hope, with the 1043ND connected to my Primary Router by ethernet cable.
Was a bit unsure about the latest release, it being only out 24hours, but, if the port lights are the only issue, then, thats not a problem for me.

I originally did WRT update from TP-STOCK using the German firmware to enable WAN and then WRT all was working apart from the network drop outs every now and again, so I went to re-install using WEBREVERT (no WAN worked), then GERMAN but still no WAN, I then continued with DDRT as advised, but still no WAN, can someone help, I think its something to do with booloader. I tired 30sec restart, but still no luck, can someone please advise help...

Just a update, and a vote of thanks guys, updated my 1043ND V1.8 to latest 2013-01-01, lan+wan leds do not work, setup as a Wireless Access Point, http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Wireless_Access_Point
did a printout to follow, very easy to follow, 30/30/30 reset before and after, bit nervous about that, but after doing it for first time, its ok, seems to work well, not tried any clients yet, USB does not seem to work, (any ideas pls ?) or plugging the LAN cable into the WAN port, thought i'd enabled that ??
Getting it working is a big plus for this noob...

Hey, does anyone know if the latest version works on the WR1043ND V1.8? I have one and would really like to install dd-wrt as I had it on my previous router and it was very good.

It seems a really popular router so it would be good if we can get a definitive answer on this.

Thanks.
