hello all,

i am having an issue with my n66u not upgrading. it currently has fractal's special 64KB NVRAM build 20979.

i attempted to upgrade the dd-wrt firmware using the following files:

dd-wrt.v24-21676_NEWD-2_K2.6_mega-nv64k.bin
dd-wrt.v24-21676_NEWD-2_K3.x_mega-nv64k.bin

but in both instances the router never applies the update.

i have tried the 30-30-30 reset using the WPS and reset buttons (not both at the same time) and also using the telnet commands.

any suggestions (read: useful suggestions) are appreciated!

The nvram versions of dd-wrt dont flash on n66u that router requires the special n66u flash:

however fractal has new builds... here:

first:

under K2.6 there is NO 64k support for N66U in official dd-wrt´s.
so, dd-wrt.v24-21676_NEWD-2_K2.6_mega-nv64k.bin

cannot work and may cause a brick.

2nd: just read BS first post in Sticky "Kernel 3.X testing users wanted" thread.
.TRX with special router name in build is not required when already on dd-wrt. but, of course, it should be useable.
however, i have no idea, if fractal has some additional checks in his code for firmware upgrade.

Here are the pertinent variables

root@DD-WRT:~# nvram show | grep ntp

Server:         192.168.1.1
Address:        192.168.1.1#53

Non-authoritative answer:
72.2.123.204.in-addr.arpa       name = usno.pa-x.dec.com.

Authoritative answers can be found from:

root@DD-WRT:~#

204.123.2.72 is a local stratum 1 time server close to my home.

Windows 7 time taken short while later

Code:
C:\>time
The current time is: 21:18:46:22
Enter the new time:
C:\>

These same values work fine on my production router running DD-WRT v24-sp2 (04/07/12) big - build 18946M NEWD-2 K2.6 Eko on an RT-N66U

Honestly, without knowing your setup I don't know why NTP doesn't work. I don't believe any recent builds have been reported with NTP functionality being broken, I would have to say something with your setup maybe is causing it.

Reflash another build maybe or 30/30/30 reset it and try again.

One idea is that this problem might be linked to the firewall issues I have seen and talked about earlier. It might be that NTP access is being blocked due to some weird firewall bug.

mache:

that has nothing to do with firewall rules / bug.
what does happen while a manual time update ?
you can force it, when firmware has completely booted via cron or startup-script.

After a reboot, you get time set to 0 UTC regardless of the settings. The example I posted earlier was just after a reboot.

PostPosted: Thu Jun 27, 2013 17:21    Post subject: Not getting Max Throughput Reply with quote
Just wanted to see if someone could offer some suggestions to getting max throughput on wireless with RT-N66U on 3.x build 21676. The router Status screen is displaying lower output than I'm actually getting on the clients (Mac mini, Mac Air, iPhones, iPads, etc). Reported speed on router is 72 (2.4g) and 150 (5g). From the clients (standing ~3ft away) I'm getting 130 and 300. Those seem to be the max throughputs coming to clients. Played around with 20/40 channel widths, Mixed Modes, N-A, N-G, etc, but nothing gets past these throughputs. Very little interference from surrounding WiFi (only 3 networks, chan 1, chan 11, and 1 that hops 5/2.4 on 11/36).

Just looking for any help on what I might be able to do to help increase throughput to clients. Obviously I'm getting pretty good rates compared to what I could have, but just trying to optimize this for gaming and movie streaming over the Wifi and want the best performance I can get.

1 other random item - any possibility there is a location for release notes on known issues for the 3.x builds (21676 specifically)? Just want to know what will/won't work properly or could cause me issues, rather than reading through this thread of 100+ pages.

so am i stuck with the current dd-wrt version since i have a 64KB nvram setup?

i did try one of the 3.x files already but it didnt seem to take... guess i will try the file listed in BS' sticky.

so i should use the dd-wrt.v24-21676_NEWD-2_K3.x_mega_RT-N66U.trx to upgrade after reverting back to stock firmware, correct?

after i re-upgrade to dd-wrt, will i be able to use the generic mega/mega-nv64k bin files?
