Hello All,

I have a WRT54GL.

As many of you know, any devices connected to the LAN ports of the router in client bridged mode will appear to have the same MAC address as the router itself according to devices that are connected to the AP. (I hope this makes sense!)

This is quite problematic for me because I have an application that won't work unless it can detect the proper MAC address of the device.

Here's my set up:

PC--[Cat5]--AP - (wireless) - WRT54GL client bridge--[Cat5]--MediaPlayer

The AP is a Billion 7404 wireless ADSL router.

The application is Ximeta NDAS. This software communicates with the media player. When installing the software it requires the input of a device ID. This seems to somehow tell it what MAC address to look for. If it doesn't find this address then it fails to function. And this failure is precisely what happens because the WRT54GL is re-writing the MAC address of the media player.

I tried MAC address cloning and set it to the MAC address of the media player. Things went a bit haywire as I'm assuming that you can't have the same MAC address set on the client bridge and any devices connected to it!

If anyone has any ideas about how I can get around this problem it'd be much appreciated..

Strange - I have a desktop, an xbox and sometimes a PS2 wired to my client bridge, they each have their own individual MAC addresses.

Are you sure about that?

From a command prompt of a device connected to the AP side:
- ping a device that's connected to the client bridge side.
- then issue the command: arp -a

Is the device connected to the client bridge showing it's real MAC or the client bridge's MAC??

Here is a screenshot of the DHCP Clients from my DD-WRT System Information page

The Client Bridge router has a MAC address of xx:xx:xx:xx:AA:4A

Are you looking at the DHCP client leases on the bridge itself?
Upstream from the bridge, the arp -a command should show devices as having xx:xx:xx:xx:AA:4A, the mac address of your bridge.

Several months ago this was a topic of interest here.
