My ISP is Verizon FIOS which provides a modem/router- in-one box, so I'm pretty much forced to use this router. I do however, want to use my ASUS RT-N16 as a Wireless Access Point behind the router.
I followed the DD-WRT wiki guide for setting up a WAP step-by-step, but cannot access the internet from a wireless PC behind the WAP. It does get a DHCP IP address from the router properly, but I imagine there's an issue with the DNS server. This despite setting my router's IP address (192.168.1.1) as the Gateway and Local DNS in the DD-WRT WAP's Setup page.
The WAP's IP address is set to 192.168.1.254, which is outside the router's DHCP lease range (192.168.1.2 - 192.168.1.199).
Here's my output from ipconfig on the Windows client. Is it correct that it's reporting the DNS Servers as the WAP's IP address (192.168.1.254) and not the router's IP address (192.168.1.1)?
I think I may have solved it. One of the options listed in the Wiki is the following:
Quote:
4. Open the Setup -> Advanced Routing tab
* (Optional) Change operating mode to: Router
* Save
If I change it back to Gateway everything works fine. Does this make sense? Why does the Wiki author make this optional suggestion to change the operating mode to Router?
