***************************************************

The DD-wrt firmware for these units is already available for download in the oficial BrainSlayer repository, starting with build 15693.

***************************************************

Hello everyone.

I got a WR740N unit a few months ago and I'm pretty impressed with the stability of this router, but I do feel it could offer even more if it had DD-WRT.

I gathered all the information I could on the web to help DD-wrt being ported to it. This device has the exact same hardware as the WR741ND, with the only difference being the non-deatachable antenna on the 740N, but only 741ND is supported ATM.

FCC ID: TE7WR740N
https://fjallfoss.fcc.gov/oetcf/eas/reports/ViewExhibitReport.cfm?mode=Exhibits&RequestTimeout=500&calledFromFrame=N&application_id=891185&fcc_id=%27TE7WR740N%27

Hardware Platform Information
* CPU: Atheros AR7240 (400MHz)
* SDRAM: Zentel A3S56D40FTP-G5 (32MB)
* FLASH: Spansion FL032PIF (4MB)

https://code.google.com/p/ezbox/wiki/TPLink_TL_WR740N_V4 ( translated from chinese to english, the owner of this wiki is the openWrt forum user )

WR740N has a V2 version being shipped nowadays, but seems like it´s a cosmetic remodelling of the cover and the hardware didn't change at all. The latest firmware from TP-Link for the V1 of the router is same file for the V2:

TL-WR740N_v1v2_100910.zip

Let me know if you guys need more info.

Would be nice to have this model supported by DD-Wrt.

the last link isnt the unit from above.

the first step would be flashing the ddwrt 741 build via tftp as decribed in the openwrt wiki to see its booting

You may try OpenWrt Backfire 10.03.1-RC3 first.
This version:
openwrt-ar71xx-tl-wr741nd-v1-squashfs-factory.bin should be flashable from Web interface.

I flashed my WR841ND v5 using web flash image, without tftp.

As soon as you get telnet/ssh access, you can study internals and check what is the real difference of WR740N from WR741ND, if any.
My understanding that the only difference is non-detachable antennas.

Sash, I have removed the link that is not related with the unit to avoid future confusion.

v.plessky, thanks for the encouragement, but I won't be able to do this anymore.

My father's WRT54G started to have weird behavior ( http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=81405 ) and I will give him my WR740N to get a WR1043ND for me ( it has 8MB flash ).

I hope someone else try it out and get DD-wrt ported to this router.

Good choice. You should not have a problem to flash it via web interface.
Native (stock) WR1043ND firmware is also surprisingly stable. I have it in front of me now, WAN connection is PPPoE (+2nd interface for connection to ISP network), and it seems it can handle my traffic (~50GB per day via torrent) much better than ASUS WL500G Premium (dd-wrt v24 sp2).

Cool! Would flashing from Web interface work as well?

As WR741ND is really inexpensive (don't like word "cheap"), I would recommend it to everyone who is just starting his (her) way to DD-Wrt or *Wrt.

It is really excellent replacement for numerous "2MB flash only" Broadcom-based routers, like Linksys WRT54G v8.

BrainSlayer,

Since my dad´s WRT54G seems to be gone, I gave him my WR740N. He can't bear anything eletronic, not even a VCR but he needs e-mail.

I don't live with him anymore, so, I can't use this unit for tests.

I hope someone else carry it on.

Cheers,
Cleber.

Hey everyone! I was just looking to put ddwrt on my TP-Link WR740N and I was wondering on how that was going. I can help test out some builds if you would like me to.

Didn't you just mention that you'll upgrade the WRT54G v8 from micro build 10020 to 14929?

I installed it and it works just fine on the 740N however, my internet speed is so slow with ddwrt on it. What settings must I adjust?[/quote]

EDIT: NEVER MIND! I enabled STP on my WAN connection by accident. This firmware works perfectly with the 740N!

Thank You!
