Hi everybody. I just bought a WRT160N v3 router and when I tried to install the DD-WRT firmware I made a stupid mistake and I upgraded the v2 version. Since then, when I plug in the router the power led blinks for a little while, and then it turns off, and nothing else happens. I cannot even enter the router setup from http://192.168.1.1.

I tried:

Quote:
Ping the connection - results: PING ERROR and 100% connection loss

Quote:
Hard Reset 30/30/30 - results: when I finish with the reset, the power LED is on, but nothing else changes, I cannot ping and not even enter the setup. When I plug off and on again, the LED blinks a while and then turns off again

Quote:
Use the Setup Wizard from Linksys - results: when the wizard asks me to plug in the router, it keeps waiting several minutes and then an error message appears telling me that the router isn't found

Quote:
Use TFTP2 to flash with the original firmware and the DD-WRT v3 correct firmware - results: TFTP2 cannot connect to the server in both cases

Does it means that I bricked the router? Can I brick it by just upgrading a wrong version of the firmware? Is there any solution for this?

Thanks in advance for your help!

PS: sorry if I misspell something

See the jtag wiki article and "how to debrick by serial" thread linked at the end of number 6 in the peacock announcement. Pick one of those methods.

Yes. The wrong firmware WILL often brick your router.

the 160 V2 is not dd-wrt supported.. what firmware exactly did you flash?

if you flashed a k24 build, you will need a serial console connection to recover.

I have a v3 router, and I flashed it with a v2 firmware.

The firmware that I used is "dd-wrt.v24-12548_NEWD_mini.bin". I read the installation instructions but I followed the steps for the v2, that's when I made a mistake. Here's the guide that I looked: http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Linksys_WRT150N_%26_WRT160N

Peabody, can you give me some links about that?

Thank you!

Like barryware already told you 160n v2 is not supported. If you flashed it with the k2.4 version for the v1 then only serial will fix your brick.

I revive my router following the instructions in one of the methods in the peacock announcement, just plugging my router, waiting 1 second, then pressing RESET for 5 seconds, and entering 192.168.1.1 and tadah! I just uploaded a new firmware from the manager!!

Thanks all for your help, you saved my router!!

There are a couple posts about using the Cisco recovery page, an undocumented feature of the router. When all else failed, that was what worked for me. See these links:
