Building them right now as I want to see how 3.18 performs on my new line. 4.9 is sometimes good and sometimes bad, I also just changed modem firmware which saves reduced ping by 6ms.
Line is great

I'm really late to the party but just installed DD-WRT Kong on my R7500v2 a couple weeks ago. After researching DD-WRT QOS a bit and implementing a fairly simplistic QOS config on my router, I'm quite pleased with it so far. Bufferbloat is an "A," websites load snappily, and everyone in the house is happy.

But I've read some grumblings about the newer 4.x kernel builds. What's so bad about them with regards to QOS?

Thanks!

look at the download latency different on k4.9 vs k3.18, and the throughput difference with k4.9 hfsc. its not normal, and im not the only one with the issue either. my isp bufferbloat is better than that, and it only seems to be on ipq806x on k4.x, other arch like broadcom northstar is fine on k4.x.

Thank you for that. So are most folks in agreement or coming to the realization that something ain't right in the land of QOS on 4.x?

When did Kong start switching to 4.x builds? Is his last stable build from February of this year still on the 3.x kernel?

Updated to 3.18.124 here https://svn.dd-wrt.com/changeset/37398

Unless you meant the builds in Test-3.18 folder then yeah no 3.18 for 37400 yet

I don't think Kong had any public K4x release until couple months back. I know r36995M kongat 09/20/18 is K4.9

Main BS dd-wrt for these routers went to K4.x about first of this year.

Wow, evidently I’m still on the 3.18 Kong builds so I guess I’ll sit tight for the moment. Unless there are some good reasons for moving to 4.x kernel (e.g. stable beamforming).

beamforming is radio driver/firmware, and client device dependent, not kernel. i have no issues with beamforming. the difference is noticeable with iphone xs max.

Router R7800, AP, static addresses, wireless 2,4 & 5 GHz with guest VLAN, USB drives, NAS
QoS HTB, FQ_CODEL, 8000 down, 1000 up (without QoS more than 20000 down, 1500 up depending on situation; on a small business LAN, so double NAT)

These are the best results so far & the first run on this latest Kong fw 37400M. On previous version 37120M bufferbloat was B at best.
