Would you recommend converting the WRT320N to an E2000 in general (for an experienced DD-WRT-User)?

As far as I have seen it fixes at least the more crucial bugs in the CFE (TFTP-Bug, Reset-Button-Bug).

Did anybody of you see more advantages (even higher stability, ...)?

What I found in the forums is that the hardware versions of the routers boards are different. This caused the LED-bug fixed in r14974.
Does this LED-fix for the E2000 cause another LED-bug when converting a WRT320N to E2000 (different LED GPIO)??
Did anyone recognize other differences?

Yes i recommend it, or i would not have made this post on the procedure. Yes, the unit seems more stable now. And yes this 14974 build fixes all of the led issues for the E2000, which is what you will have when you do this process.

edit:

succeeded wo the additional screenshots. It's working now on the BS 14929 (latest build)DD-WRT v24-sp2 (08/12/10) std-usb-ftp. It works perfect so far but i'm wondering one thing:

Apart from the big e2000 build what is the diff between std2000 and std e2k-e3k builds?

Hi everybody!

Can somebody place step by step how to with screenshots or add screenshots to the existing manual in the 1st post?

Jeez, maybe we should send someone to hold your hand while you do the convert?
If you don't understand those written instructions then you are not game for doing the convert, better keep it as a 320.

And not to mention i already have had someone request a pic on where to edit the lines in the CFE, i already provided that, if you can not figure it out from there, i would advise not to do the procedure.

Very helpful screen shot btw buddee! Does it matter whether one use telnet or an SSH client to upload new cfe file?

Are there any telnet clients at all that supports file transfers?
(I'm not aware of any)

I was successful in converting as well. Thanks for the very good guide buddee!

I did use WinSCP to transfer the modified E2000 cfe file from my desktop to the /tmp directory of the root folder on the 320n router.

I then used the Putty SSH client to log on to the 320n router and followed the commands on buddee's guide to unlock the current cfe and write the new modified e2000 cfe to the 320n router.

In the end I was able to flash:

DD-WRT v24-sp2 (07/28/10) big - build 14853M NEWD-2 K2.6 Eko--->ftp://ftp.dd-wrt.com/others/eko/V24-K26/svn14853/dd-wrt.v24-14853_NEWD-2_K2.6_big-e2000.bin

after flashing with the modified build that buddee attached on his post.

Altogether the process took around 5-6 mins, not bad!

As a reminder, the easiest way to back up your cfe file would be, via HTTP, by adding this in your browser, of course replacing router_ip with your designated local router ip(usually 192.168.1.1):

http://router_ip/backup/cfe.bin

BTW jvwrt, it didn't seem that I had to delete the CFE.BIN file from the /tmp directory in order for the upgrade to take place...strange.

What would be the best build to run on the e2000 or is:

build 14853M NEWD-2 K2.6 Eko, a good choice?

Thanks guys for all your help!

Good stuff, remember on page 4 here, i posted a link for 14974, which fixes any of the led issues.

Edit: also remember, only use builds with the e2000 or e2k name in it for upgrading, otherwise risk a brick.

Just a quick question - I currently have a 320N with DD-WRT already. Can i just change the CFE, flash the E2000 DD-WRT and after any regular choice/flavour of DD-WRT or do I need to go back to stock firmware to crossflash?

You must have dd-wrt on the router 1st. There is no way to transfer the cfe.bin without ssh and stock firmware does not have ssh.

After flashed / converted, you can ONLY USE BUILDS MEANT FOR THE E2000.

Please review this thread from page 1

I've just converted mine WRT320n to a E2000.
It's a EU model of the WRT320n but it just works fine!
One of the improvements i noticed is that the wireless errors are decreased, and the wireless throughput seems slightly faster, so thats great :D

I hope that the bug with the clock running to fast also is fixed in the e2000 builds. I had to run this script: http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=443146#443146 to keep the clock in sync. But i have to wait to check it.

Thnx for the great instructions, it was a piece of cake ;)

Can i now also flash the original linksys firmware for the e2000 on my 320n?
