I have a Linksys WAP54G v2 which I foolishly bricked by flashing with Eko's faulty micro 14818 build rather than checking here in this forum for comments...

Hey-ho, this is a new experience for me so sorry if I appear dumb but I have read up on debricking procedures and there is a lot of contradicting stuff out there.

The unit does not respond to pings, even after several 30/30/30 reset attempts so I believe that my only option is JTAG.

From what I can gather, it is simply a case of making a cable from my RS232 serial port to the WAP54G main board.

So I have made one using pin-outs from various guides but when I start a terminal session, I am unable to access a serial console. I know that my cable is fine because if I short TX and RX then I get my characters echoed back at me.

Can anyone offer any advice for what I may be doing wrong - or suggestions for an alternate debricking method? Thanks in advance.

Bad connections at the main board of the router?

Try swapping rx and tx see if that makes a difference.

Thanks for that - I should have said that swapping TX and RX was one of the first things that I tried.

I read in one article that I need resistors rather that just cable - is this the case?

You need a TTL module is all I know. I bought a pre-built one off EBay.

Oh no! I was hoping to debrick my unit now.

Thanks for your help with this.

Do you know of an alternate debricking method?

From what I have just read, what I am doing is not JTAG. How do I do that? Is it serial port also?

Ah, the parallel port. How did I miss that? Thank you very much indeed.
