I tried opening a few ports on the router (E3000), under port forwarding, then a couple others on port triggering, which caused my router to lock me out from management completely which then made me perform a physical power cycle.
I'm running the following build: DD-WRT v24-sp2 (12/24/10) big (SVN revision 15962).
Also, I tried to reboot it via telnet, however it would not accept any combination of username and passwords that I tried, such as root/admin, admin/admin, and my known username and password for the GUI interface. Nothing worked. I have changed my username as well as my password for the router, could that be the reason why I couldn't telnet in successfully? Or is it a bug in this build?
Hey guys i read the WIKI and parts of this thread but i'm still confused which version to flash on my E3000.
The E3000 WIKI tells me dd-wrt.v24-14853_NEWD-2_K2.6_std_usb_ftp-e3000.bin for initial flashes a few sentecs later is written that i can use every e3000 build - BUT NOT the e2k-e3k builds.
So is it correct, that i can use EVERY file with e3000 in the name for initial flashes but for UPGRADING i have to use the e2k-e3k builds?
Is there a version being rock solid? What version should i pick up if i just use the device as a WLAN accesspoint - nothing more (mini?)? Qos is the only interesting thing.
Thanks guys and sorry for my stupid questions.
Use the link I had provided on page 65, that's what I used on my E3000 and it worked well.
I may be reading it wrong and dumber than average...
But when you portforward port 21, you just type ex. 192.168.1.100 right? And not 192.168.1.100:21
Could that be the case? ö

You can see my setting on this picture:
I'll suggest listening to buddee :)
And you're sure that you have the *.*.*.100 address?

Leave the source net fields blank, also as i stated above, if you are doing this login from within your LAN to test it, you may need to add a loopback rule, reference the link in my sig for more info.

Yes you are getting confused with simple logic here, the initial flash means first flash going from stock firmware to dd-wrt.
After that, once you have dd-wrt on the unit established, you use the e2k-e3k.bin's for upgrading to newer or later dd-wrt builds, meaning you wont have to use the e3000.bin to simply upgrade, instead you use the ones with the e2k-e3k name in it.
As far as the differences in Brainslayer and Eko builds, thats been covered WAY to many times, google is your friend there.
And if you just wanted simple access point functionality, i would use the std-usb-ftp flavor for that unit. It doesn't have alot of the extra features, but it works with no problems.

Oh, and why not? I do all the time.
I returned back to the 14853M and everything is perfect now.
I dont remember, why the net was important for me, maybe a previous version had to set... I will upgrade it again tomorrow and set it to blank and report.
UPDATE: I uploaded the new firmware and left blank that field. I checked the loopback as you mentioned.
Same problems: I cant access from inside, and I get "Illegal port range rejected" while I would like to access my FTP from outside. I am sure I miss something, but I will upload the previous one - it worked at first sight. :)
I made several tests and speed mentioned is average. So it seems that router slows down the traffic. I understand thet the traffic is slowed down over wireless due the encryption...
