The configuration changes I've made are:
* changed default username/password
* changed default ip address from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.100.1
* changed wireless SSID, mode to G-Only (never worked when set to Mix with stock firmware and Intel WiFi 5100 AGN on hp laptop), and security to WPA Personal TKIP
All is fine and works great. It even solved a WiFi problem I had with trying to use my laptop's wireless connection to write large files (100MB +) to a samba server share. KUDOS to BrainSlayer and all the others who made this project what it is.
However, I end up locking my router when I try to create a 2nd VLAN on Port 4. Then I do a hard reset, re-configure and all is well. I'm not sure if what I'm about to describe has been documented and I'm just not using the correct terminology while I'm search, but I cannot seem to achieve the following setup:
I would like any of the 4 ports on the device to be segregated from the other 3 ports and wireless. E.G., VLAN1 = 1,2,3,Wireless & VLAN2 = 4
I really don't want them to see each other.
Most gigabit switches can not have their VLAN's reconfigured. There's been a few reports that the newest models can but wrt310n v1 is somewhat old and I doubt it can. _________________ Read the forum announcements thoroughly! Be cautious if you're inexperienced.

If that is the case, should the following idea work:
* get non-wireless router (that is not gigabit) and put behind the cable modem (in place of the WRT310Nv1)
* configure WRT310Nv1 to be strictly an AP behind the new device
* re-attempt VLAN setup
If yes, any suggestions on non-wireless routers - I haven't looked at a non-wireless router in 7+ years.
I wouldn't bother with any non-wireless router, you can just turn off the wireless if you don't want it at the moment. I would put another dd-wrt router (doesn't matter if it has VLAN's either) behind the wrt310n and add an iptables command to the firewall script on the 2nd router to prevent it from accessing the wrt310n's subnet. That way you wouldn't be double NAT'ing the wrt310n or having to do anything with VLAN's.
iptables -I FORWARD -d `nvram get wan_ipaddr`/`nvram get wan_netmask` -j DROP _________________ Read the forum announcements thoroughly! Be cautious if you're inexperienced.
