My kit (ASUS WL-500GP v1) suffers the same problem with Broadcom K26 14684. 3G works a treat but wireless has disappeared until I go to Setup -> VLANs and set Wireless to LAN. Unfortunately after a reboot the same change has to be made again.
You don't know how long it took to figure out this issue.

I'm trying to get an ICON401 working with my D-LINK DIR-825:B1 and DD-WRT v24 sp2 build 14311
I know what settings to apply in the user/pass/APN area and have no problem connecting with the ICON401 when hocked up to a computer (running win 7) however I can't get to work on the router. Frankly I don't know where to begin, I'm not a linux guru. I first tried to follow the wiki article [http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Cellular_Phone/USB_Modem_as_WAN_connection] but soon found out the module wouldn't load on this build of DD-WRT and reading this thread I gather perhaps it's supposed to work without loading any extra core modules??
If anyone can help or give me a push in a good direction, I would be thankful.

Update:
Big progress! I tried with an older (more mainstream) USB modem (the all famous Huawei E220) and who and behold it works! I'm actually editing this post over it now :-)
So the problem is now somewhat narrowed down, though it still persists regarding the ICON 401, and that's a shame because it is faster and I also have a very much needed external antenna that works with it and not with the E220.
So any idea on how to get the ICON working is still much appreciated!

I found somthing about Option modems needing an HSO driver though I don't know what that is. I also found this page

Hi all,
I've been able to successfully connect K3765 with asus rt n16 after lot of struggle .
My suggestion to solve the problems.
This issue is mostly due to virutal CD-ROM drive in the USB modem and first i tried through usb_modeswitch.conf but couldnt get success.
Then i executed AT commands to my modem on connected COM port through hyperterminal for disabling virtual CD-ROM.
After succesfully disabled virtual CD-ROM, i connected k3765 to my ASUS rt n-16 and thats IT , immediatly i got WAN connection :)
For disabling virtual CD-ROM, i used this AT^U2DIAG=256 command over putty. more info on this here

Although in an older installation I could use the 3g WAN option fine, I now have a serious problem in my present two installations.
Most of the times the router can not establish the connection with the 3G network. Some times it does, but most of the times does not. I can not tell when how or why!
Notice that, I can always see the modem powered on and finding 3G network (usb stick’s led blue and blinking) but not establishing a data connection (usb stick’s led always on).
Notice also, that in an older device (same model, same ver:1.5) with EXACTLY the same configuration, everything was fine. I have also tried this to 2 new devices with build 14311, problem persist.
I spent two days trying to figure out what is happening, brought the older device (which still works perfect) together to compare settings, everything was the same, but still the new devices could not work right with 3g.

WHEN ROUTER CAN NOT RECOGNIZE THE 3G USB STICK/MODEM (USB LED OFF, ON ROUTER'S DISPLAY) AFTER BOOT, IF I UNPLUG THE 3G USB STICK AND PLUG IT BACK, THEN ROUTER CAN RECOGNIZE IT(USB LED ON, ON ROUTER'S DISPLAY) AND ESTABLISH A 3G CONNECTION!

I just wanted to add that even though this does work just fine the initial connection time may vary as it seems to take forever for it to actually connect.Best thing to do is configure and then walk away it seems.
It's been online now since I posted last with no interruption of lan or wireless.
Also,this may sound stupid as I'm sure you already know this but make sure you have your line from your pc plugged into the lan port not wan as the 3g device is your wan.At least that's my configuration.
