Hi community,

I just bought a brand new Cisco Linksys E2000 router and followed the instructions for the installation for DD-WRT (http://dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Linksys_E2000) with on difference: I used for the initial build the "dd-wrt.v24-16785_NEWD-2_K2.6_std_usb_nas-e2000.bin" which is listed in the router database (http://www.dd-wrt.com/site/support/router-database).

Now I wanted to configure the OpenVPN which should be available in Services -> VPN. But no, there is no OpenVPN.
So, what did I do wrong? Do I have the wrong firmware version? Which version is the best for OpenVPN for the E2000 then?

Edit: OK, I think I have to get the "BIG" version, right? Unfortunately updating from "dd-wrt.v24-16785_NEWD-2_K2.6_std_usb_nas-e2000.bin" to "dd-wrt.v24-16785_NEWD-2_K2.6_big-e2k-e3k.bin" doesn't work - the update says "successful" but the router stays on the "std usb nas". Any ideas?

This might help you:

http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/What_is_DD-WRT%3F#K2.6_Build_Features

Also re-read the Linksys E2000 page again, particularly step 1 of the flashing instuctions and the "DD-WRT E2000 Build information" section.

Make sure to always use builds with e2k-e3k in the name only or other appropriate builds as specified in the e2000 wiki.

Did you 30/30/30 reset your router when attempting to upgrade to a different version of DD-WRT?

Main router:

Netgear R7000 overclocked to 1.2GHz - DD-WRT v3.0-r35965M kongac

IPv6 6in4 (HE.net), OpenVPN (with PBR and split tunnelling), Entware, dnsmasq with ipset

Easy ipset support for the R7000

VPN speed: Download: 77.96 Mbps Upload: 5.00 Mbps (AES-128-CBC HMAC-SHA1)

Yes you can get 50 Mbps+ with OpenVPN on a R7000 if you configure it properly!

Previous routers:

ASUS RT-N66U - The Dark Knight
WNR2000v3 - Bought on the cheap for someone else, neutered crap

e2k-e3k files are expired after 16785 and -nv60k is the new format/trailing for all routers with 60KBytes of nvram like your e2000.

Thank you very much James2k and LOM!
Finally I got it working Smile

I flashed the dd-wrt.v24-16758_NEWD-2_K2.6_big-nv60k.bin from ftp://dd-wrt.com/others/eko/V24-K26/svn16758/ and it works perfectly!

Cheers!

I want to use this post so I don't open a new one with the same question if you guys don't mind.
I just bought a refurbished e2000 and of course I want to flash ddwrt in it due to the great experience from my wrt310v2. I flashed that one with no problem, the instructions were pretty clear but with the e2000 I'm a little confuse because the version I need to flash in it.

My question is, do I flash the dd-wrt.v24-16758_Newd-2_k.2.6_big-nv60k.bin directly from the stock linksys firmware and leave it like that? Or,
Do I first flash the dd-wrt.v24-16785_NEWD-2_K2.6_big-e2000.bin from the stock firmware and then after that flash the dd-wrt.v24-16758_Newd-2_k.2.6_big-nv60k.bin over?

If I'm completely wrong can you please list the steps to complete the flash? Thanks!!!!

Peacock announcement note 5. Follow the wiki for initial flashing. Always.
