Just tried to update my old WRT54G v.5 (with 16MB upgrade) from build 13832 to this 13972 using the Broadcom micro_generic .bin without success - unit reports the update failed and provides a 'Continue' button that returns me to the firmware update page (I perform an 'erase nvram' command before each upgrade attempt which has always worked well for me).

Having the same issue here (WRT54G v5) with the micro build. Tried different browsers, and cleared the caches just to be sure.

Same here, I also tried different browsers (IE8, Firefox and Opera) and cleared the caches. Same result in all 3 browsers with the WRT54GS v7.0. Can load the older firmware versions (r13968 or earlier) back in ok but not the new r13972 dd-wrt.v24_micro_generic.bin firmware.

Same here.

And no, to the people that are inevitably going to ask.. it's not an issue with how I'm installing it. I've been running DD-WRT for years, I know the install process for new builds.

Whenever I get that - which is quite often with a WAP54G - then I reboot the unit and TFTP the firmware according to the instructions in the Peacock Thread:

Quote:

When pinging the router:

If reply has TTL of 100, the bootloader (CFE) is responding. This is the best time to start the TFTP transfer. In most cases you should be able to flash dd-wrt firmware if you are getting any ttl=100 responses, as long as you flash at the start of these ping responses. See note 11 about how to flash. Timing can be tricky.

...

Routers with boot wait enabled will give you a few ping responses of ttl=100, while the operating system is loading, prior to changing to ttl=64. This enables you to flash firmware at bootup with tftp if you wish to.

...

If you get a few ping responses of ttl=100, or even 1, that is the CFE saying "Send me a firmware! NOW!" But you have to hit it with a tftp right then, when the ping responses start.

Has anyone been having connection problems with this build? When using BitTorrent, the same way I also have, when I hit 500Kb or more in download speeds, all my connections globally disconnect. I'd easily get sustained 1.2MB transfers via a wired connection. Not even using wireless at this point; my system I BitTorrent on is hardwired.

I'm using a wrt600n with the 600n mega build. I may revert to the previous build.

EDIT: Another 30 reset and input of my settings seems to have cured it. My initial 30/30/30 for the update must have been incomplete (my user error Laughing )

I had to go back to an early January release... this one didn't work well for me at all on a 610n. Others have mirrored similar views.

Does anyone know if BS will (or maybe does) offer a NEWD2 not on K26? After browsing FTP, I don't think so, but it's easy to miss things.

The *only* build for NEWD2 that is *not* with the 2.6 kernel is the WRT610n trailed mega build. Therefore if you do not have 8mb of flash ROM, then there is not one available using Brainslayer's builds.
