Just got one. Was disappointed to see it isn't supported. Since I already have a dd-wrt router I'll keep this one stored hoping that one day DD-WRT or Tomato will work on it, for now it'll make for a nice paperweight.

there are thousands of 7501 users now.

i also own one.

i searched the source code of the firmware, and only found one reference to the usb port.

I can't make any sense of it though

it's in
\A90-750115_VER01_00_00_02\SW\bcmdrivers\broadcom\net\usb\impl2

the code references such things as-

Broadcom Corporation USB Network Interface 001018000000 USB Ethernet Configuration Communication Interface
Class Data Interface Class license=Proprietary 0123456789abcdef <2>USB Configuration not written correctly.
<3>BCM63XX_USB: USB device not detected.
Broadcom BCM%X%X USB Network Device v0.4 Aug 19 2008 10:51:09

USB: No place to put free buffer.
<7>BCM63XX_USB Last control endpoint tramsmit has not completed.
Broadcom USB RNDIS Driver NetworkAddress GCC: (GNU) 3.4.4 GCC: (GNU) 3.4.4

if you plug in a flashdrive, the flashdrive lights up, and the USB status light lights up too

this router will be the bees knees for me if I can use it as a print server and as a wireless bridge. I just got 2 for $13 from verizon (and about a few thousand other ppl got the same deal) so I think there will be a lot of demand for added functionality.

I bought this router thinking that I can use the QoS settings but it seems Verizon's crippled firmwre will not allow that.

Any hopes that a modified version of firmware will allow that?

Such a inexpensive unit! It makes me wonder why Verizon is selling them at that price. The first thing I thought of is "what's wrong with it?".

It's great though, I hope you guys get them working Very Happy

Well it has 32mb RAM and 6mb Flash storage. That's plenty big for the standard build, no? ahh the possibilities...

If you want to compile the source from westell extract the linux tools (toolchain) to /opt/toolchains, not /opt as the readme specifies. After this change it will compile without issue. I have successfully compiled the firmware and it is very similar to openwrt.

Is it the same firmware that's on the router already? If not, could you post the compiled firmware? Smile

It is the same firmware, but it has comments and options to enable different features/packages.

What different features/packages? Does it make it so you can enable use of the USB port, or have the router operate in bridged mode?
