for WRT54G V4 use kodak image (on page 3).
The steps are:
1. replace all four resistors with 15k (two if you want only one USB)
2. solder two wires from those resistors (side on the BCM ...) to the USB connector (for USB pinout use: http://www.google.com/#sclient=psy&hl=en&source=hp&q=usb+connector+pinout&pbx=1&oq=usb+connector&aq=2&aqi=g5&aql=&gs_sm=c&gs_upl=0l0l1l464l0l0l0l0l0l0l0l0ll0l0&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.&fp=104ae468c6e9bd24&biw=1280&bih=909).
3. connect the USB connector GND (pin4) to board GND (close to BCM...)
4. 'make' a +5V (you can use 7805 ... ) - not recommended if you need to draw some power from USB port. If you use 7805 I strongly recommend to use a USB hub with external power supply. Connect +5V wire to USB connector pin1.
5. reflash your router with a firmware with USB support (I recommend dd-wrt.v24-......_VINT_mini_usb_ftp)

I have also a solution for USB on wrt45G V.1 (BCM4702) if some one need it ... please let me know.
Hooked up and it is a no go. Router works fine otherwise though, so I am rather confused. My regulator is properly connected and my data should be properly connected, although I can redo the wiring if need be. Would that be the first thing to start with, or am I overlooking something stupid(yes, I enabled USB support and the UHCI and OHCI drivers as well as storage and fat filesystem support)?

I can rewire this stupid thing, but I would rather not.

Did anyone ever get this working on a WRT54G v3?

Thanks.

Any confirmed info about USB in G v2.2/GS v1.1 (BCM4712LKFB)?

Hello all,

Do any one know about the location of USB pins on a WRT54G v6 (BCM5352EKFBG)? This processor does not have the green pcb border, like the EKBG. There is a picture attached.

Any help is welcome!

I have a WRT54G V6, I tried to remove the silicon all the BGA circuit board using a dremmel on low speed and a diamond cone shaped bit. It removed the silicon nicely leaving a thin "skin" of silicon that I -THOUGHT- I could scrape off to get at the connection points. That silicon is some tough stuff, scraping didn't work so I thought of using a fine wire wheel on the dremmel.... well, that removed the rest of the silicon, but also removed the copper traces on the BGA board .. DOH! Well, that one is cooked... I still have 3 corners to practice on though... before I murder my next WRT54G

Any hints or tips on how to remove that silicon ... like in the posting on the first page of this thread? (picture was Posted: Fri Feb 19, 2010 7:58 pm)

OR ... has anyone figured out where those points under the silicon break out onto the wrt54g board?

did someone figure out which pins are for v3?

mine has bcm4712 soc in bga package so anything in this discussion is not helping me.

i have tried to find solution using google but that did not help me.

BCM4712KFB have 484 pins, BCM4712LKFB have 225 pins so maybe not have usb?!

Does this work for connecting USB 3g modems (Huawei USB Stick)?

after removing the resistors which side do I solder the 15k resistor leg to? closest or furthest from the broadcom chip?

Not trying to revive a dead thread, but I've been trying for a few days to add a USB port to my wrt54gs v2 for a few days now. I'm not entirely sure how to identify one. Should i just randomly poke wires and watch the syslog for a new device registered?

It looks like there are two there.

Code:
usb-ohci.c: USB OHCI at membase 0xb8004000, IRQ 2
usb-ohci.c: usb-00:04.0, PCI device 14e4:4716
usb.c: new USB bus registered, assigned bus number 1
hub.c: USB hub found
hub.c: 2 ports detected
Initializing USB Mass Storage driver...
usb.c: registered new driver usb-storage
USB Mass Storage support registered.
hub.c: new USB device 00:04.0-1, assigned address 2
usb.c: USB device not accepting new address=2 (error=-145)
hub.c: new USB device 00:04.0-1, assigned address 3
usb.c: USB device not accepting new address=3 (error=-145)
hub.c: new USB device 00:04.0-2, assigned address 4
usb.c: USB device not accepting new address=4 (error=-145)
hub.c: new USB device 00:04.0-2, assigned address 5
usb.c: USB device not accepting new address=5 (error=-145)

Any help on identifying the correct pins would be very helpful, but how i would find them myself would be more useful. Pins i should be looking for on datasheets? Voltages? Is the string of "472" SM resistors a clue in the right direction?

Here is an image of the chip.

I also have a WRT54G v2.2 and I recently bumped into this forum. I tried making the USB work but to no avail. The drivers are installed, both OHCI and UHCI (and audio) but I get the same error: usb.c: USB device not accepting new address=2 (error=-145)

I found on another forum that the 15K resistors should be soldered on Rh19/R20 but even so, the USB device is not working.

Anyone lucky to add USB to v2.2?

My router board looks just like yours except that my case says its a v3. Ive been puzzled as well. The pins Voidman says to use in his v3 mod are kinda scattered on the board. rh21 and 25 are on the Intel chip and the rh23 and 26 are on the BCM5325 chip. My board doesnt look quite like Voidmans. kinda strange. Ive had no luck so far but i have a v2 wrt54g as well that im gonna attempt if this one doesn't pan out.

My board looks exactly the same as in your picture. I also have the RH resistors scattered around in places that don't make sense (RH21 and RH25 right next to the flash).

I've tried all of the above except removing the 472 and placing my resistors directly in their place. This is because RH19,20,26 do not have a resistor placed between the solder points.

I built a pcb like Voidmans only without the 22k resistors because you only need those if you are connecting with usb2.0 and these routers only support USB1.1. And I just used the 7805 directly changing the 12v to 5v for my usb. (schematic and pictures attached below)

It seems our boards might be a step between in form factors possibly when they jumped from v2 to v3? Just speculation. Our BCM5235 chips are the same and boards so, logically, we should be using the same solder points for this mod.

It would be cool if VoidMan or Zerx dropped us a line here. Their posts and endeavors in this realm are from years past.

I'm also using the 13491_snow VINT build linked below.

ftp://dd-wrt.com/others/eko/V24_TNG/svn13491-snow/VINT/dd-wrt.v24-13491_VINT_std-nokaid_usb.bin
