Hi,

I decided to do quick speed test.

Hardware:

- Old generic PC
- Abit BH6 board, Intel 440BX chipset
- Celeron 400 MHz (66 MHz bus)
- 128 MB PC100 SDRAM (at 66 Mhz)
- 2 Realtek 8139 Ethernet cards on 33 MHz PCI bus (value: 6€ each)

Code:
~ # cat /proc/cpuinfo
processor       : 0
vendor_id       : GenuineIntel
cpu family      : 6
model           : 6
model name      : Celeron (Mendocino)
stepping        : 5
cpu MHz         : 400.982
cache size      : 128 KB
fdiv_bug        : no
hlt_bug         : no
f00f_bug        : no
coma_bug        : no
fpu             : yes
fpu_exception   : yes
cpuid level     : 2
wp              : yes
flags           : fpu vme de pse tsc msr pae mce cx8 sep mtrr pge mca cmov pat pse36 mmx fxsr up
bogomips        : 802.75

~ # free
              total         used         free       shared      buffers
  Mem:       124936        16240       108696            0         2128
 Swap:            0            0            0
Total:       124936        16240       108696

Data transfer between 2 faster PCs (both with same Realteks 8139), connected to WRT54GS switch.

Routing speed of generic PC running dd-wrt was basically the same as wire speed between PCs. It was ~ 11260 KB/s = 92 Mbps

Picture - left - shows speed without dd-wrt between, - right - dd-wrt between.
No considerable loss of speed (11320 wire speed vs. 11260 KB/s routing speed).

Eko, could you please do a wireless speed test? Perhaps in Client, WDS, and Client Bridge?

Thats the real kicker :)

Sounds very interesting.

How much memory is recommended?

Looks like 128 is going to work quite nicely, how about 64 or 32? Any loss in performance with basic routing?

Sweet.
If it works well on there, it should run on almost anything.

I imagine routing bandwidth will be lower on that system tho, probably can't push that kind of data through it with or without routing.
