Okay here's something odd...
I set the router to N only mode, then go to my network (MSI Wind U100 with RT2700e (b/g/n card)) and I can't connect to the network. I have the latest RT2700e drivers and I get the same result whether I use XP's config utility or the Ralink's utility.
However if I disable WEP, I can then connect with a speed of 135Mbps. If I set it to Mixed mode with WEP, I can connect but I think it's connecting via G because the speed rates at 54Mbps. (The netbook is about 5 feet away from the router, thus the obscenely good speeds).
Honestly I believe that this is an issue on behalf of the card itself (or the drivers for the card), but wanted to pop this issue up in hopes someone could shed some light on the matter.
I already have plans to look for a new miniPCIe card (one that supports a/b/g/n) so that I can make use of the wl1 device, so if it's indeed the card or its drivers, then that won't be too much of an issue.
I do need to ask, is this expected behavior? Is there some reason why N mode won't work with WEP? I use WEP since there are DS lites involved (as I recall they can use WEP but not WPA).
N spec does not allow weak encryption methods and WEP literally takes seconds to crack. You will to either use no encryption or WPA2 AES if you want N rates.
You can use virtual interfaces to allow different levels of encryption for different devices using one router.

This is rather cool though, because my Gv2 (renamed it to that so when I refer to it, it shouldn't cause confusion ) is now connected as a bridged point on WPA2 Personal (couldn't get WPA2 Personal Mixed to work). Have WEP for the G devices and WPA2 Personal Mixed for the N mode.
Still planning to get a new miniPCIe card though because the RT2700e doesn't have mode A, so I can't benefit from the wl1 connections. Get that going and I can move the N mode to wl1 and have wl0 for G mode only.
