-switching reg
*most of power supply came with my routers only contain a transformer with bridge regulator

*a internal switching regulator is integrated inside the router
(the noise this regulator emitted may not have the same frequency range as the 5v one I replaced )

*(off-topic)replace this internal switching regulator with a linear regulator and higher current rating transformer may improve the stability and wifi performance of the router

-current
*when a 5v power is used, the current will increase
*my wrt54gs v1 came with a 16v power, so the current may increase up to 300%(+)
*may exceed the current rating of few components
(power socket, diode, fuse, Ferrite Bead, inductor)

-noise
*since the 5v source is a switching regulator, some unwanted noise will be emitted into the router
*could malfunction the cpu and decrease the wifi performance

-eff
*according to the data-sheet of the internal switching regulator, power efficiency may be improved up to 10% due to the lower input output voltage difference.

-I am writing this article for my own reminder
-these cautions may not be that serious
