Heh, I actually emailed Newegg informing them of the release date and requested that they stock up on them...so we'll see.

Here's their response:

"Thank you for contacting Newegg. We greatly appreciate you taking the time to offer your product recommendation to us. I have forward this to our purchasing department and they will surely look into carrying this product in the near future.

If you ever have any other recommendations, questions or concerns, please let us know and we would be happy to assist you further.

Thank You,
Webmaster@Newegg.com"

Obviously the dual band problem can be fixed with DD-WRT and incorporating the drivers necessary. I still think there is more logic behind this aspect that we don't quite understand yet. ASUS wouldn't;t build a router that badass and have a major flaw such as this...

Obviously?
I don't think you know what you're talking about Sad
You need to have the hardware there for 5GHz, you can't fix that with a driver.

Aah, so I am an ass for pointing out that it might not be that easy just to include a driver?
You want the forum members to buy this router believing that it is just a matter of software?

Take a look at the "Functional Block Diagram" in the link you provide.
The big red block is the cpu and everything outside of the cpu is connected by buses, indicated by arrows.
The front end modules (FEM) and the power amplifiers are not build into the cpu, they are external and so is the BCM4322 radio.

Neither you nor I have any knowledge of which of these circuits Asus has incorporated but you seem to be sure that the router will be able to operate at both bands. Pray tell me what inside information you have!

It says it operates @ 300 megabits, this can't be done on the 2.4/2.5 band can it? I don't own N hardware so I don't know.

Alright both of us tryin to be smart-asses is unproductive. You're right I have absolutely no clue what the circuits control until someone gets the router does a GPIO dump. But in the meantime here is some other info:

http://wl500g.info/showpost.php?p=132818&postcount=528

Apparently the Original release of the router back in June contained the BCM 4716 which is only 2.4 GHz band. The new models however are equipped with the 4718. THIS is where all the confusion is coming from.

And to point this out as well, here are the specs from Asus for the WL500W which we KNOW operates in the 5GHz band:

It has to be a typo on their end...

Who has found the best price on this, in both Canada and the US? Is 95.00US and 110.00Can the best prices? Or has someone found better listings?

Only in Wireless N mode

For the record, the 5GH'z band doesn't work with DD-WRT. I could only get to to work with Oleg's firmware (which is well made, but the GUI is gay)

Here is the mini-PCI card the 500W uses

http://www.broadcom.com/products/Wireless-LAN/802.11-Wireless-LAN-Solutions/BCM2055

And the REAL specs:
