I can't defeat one problem on my WRT160NL. I've setup my router using script from wrt160nl.org.

Have no problem with UTF-8 in console, Samba, FTP and transmission. Everything seems to be working fine and there's no problems with cyrillic letters. However, I can't make Midnight Commander show cyrillic letters. It shows question marks instead. What is funny that when I hide mc panels by Ctrl-O after issuing ls command, it shows russian file names correctly.

Midnight Commander 4.7.5.2
I've installed glib2, libiconv, libncurses.
I've tried all variants for export TERM='...'
I am using putty 0.62 and set translation to UTF-8 there.

Nothing helped Sad

I need some help here please. Last night i installed dd-wrt firmware on my wrt160nl router, latest version ofc., everything went fine except my download speed on bittorrent vary too much. I got 20Mbps of downspeed, bittorent download simply goes from 2.2MBps to 900KBps not to mention router settings and also browsing the web is really slow at that time. Its like there would be too many connections router cant handle but i've also tried limiting max. connections.. didnt help.
Any advice?

p.s. It's not about running torrent system on router, will try that in the future as well, but for now just want to make bittorrent client work fine on my PC!

p.s.2 - I've also noticed that everything is even worse when port forwarding on router is enabled. Downspeed only goes to around 1MB/s and all other services are impossible to work with.. When port forwarding is not enabled the situation is still way better, only performance is still not what should have been. Help plz. Sad

Upgrade to r18687 or r18777. Drive should get mounted ok with r18024 as well, except the status is wrong.

Embrio,

Sorry I'm late to the party, but in case you didn't get it working, here's what I found out last night.

I had previously tried and failed a long time ago to attach a drive to my 160NL, but found this thread last week and tried again on a different 160NL router:

http://www.myopenrouter.com/forum/thread/25130/Simple-NAS-Setup-on-the-WNR3500L-with-DD-WRT/

(Link isn't working for me at the moment, but maybe it'll work for you)

I followed the severely simple instructions given in the link, and it worked on a router with the configured name of "House". So last night I tried it on another 160NL router I have, and the same instructions failed miserably. Like you, the router recognized the drive, but the computers wouldn't. Solution: I changed the name of my router (found at DD-WRT "Setup" tab, "Router Name") from "Tom's Tunnel Router Number 2" to "Tom" and it worked. I don't know if my Windows (XP & 7) computers didn't like the long name, or the apostrophe, or what... but they immediately recognized the drive after the router name was changed. Hope this helps someone.

BTW, I'm using build 15704 on the 160NL's. I've tried newer builds, but 15704 has been the most stable for me.

Hi guy, I need to ask you should I see USB option under services by the default? If answer is YES, why do u think I don't see this option?
I have Linksys WRT160NL and v24 preSP2 14896.
Thanks in advance.

Lately something has happened with this router. No matter which firmware I use, or which settings, I end up with 20 mb top speed on wifi, but sometimes speedtest.net shows above 50 mb. I'm currently using 19342 build.
What do you think happened? Could it be a hardware fault?

Overcrowded channel? The transfer rate decreases when channel is used by more routers.

Thanks for replying. I don't think it's really the channel, since before this the router was on Auto and it did a wonderful job and now, no matter which channel I set, I get the same result.

The speed is fine for a few minutes (60 mb/sec) and then it drops to a max of 20 mb/sec. Could it be the firmware?

Try to reduce the TX power. Put 15 and see what happens.

Old thread, I know.
However, I want to check that these latest firmware versions up to r19519 are actually functional for my 160nl router.

The router database for dd-wrt shows the latest version as 14896.

my CPU model is reported by DD-WRT as: Atheros AR9130 rev 2 (0xb8)

the support doc page lists the chip as AP81
https://secure.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Linksys_WRT160NL

the supported devices page here:
http://www.dd-wrt.com/wiki/index.php/Supported_Devices
Shows that it's a supported device, with AR9130
(Search for the router by the FCC-ID -> "Q87-WRT160NL" to find it)

Just looking for confirmation, so that I can upgrade without any issues... There seems to be a lot of conflicting information on the dd-wrt site, wiki, and forums regarding this router.

Thanks in advance.

Yes the last few builds at least from 18777 > 19519 work for the WRT160NL but the latest is not stable

I dropped back to 19342 and it seems fine so far

18777 was by far the best build though if your looking for stability

Ignore the router database, it is old and outdated, stick to the forums and the FTP for info on new and working builds
