OpenWrt has a build that seems to work currently: http://downloads.openwrt.org/snapshots/trunk/ar71xx/openwrt-ar71xx-wrt160nl-jffs2.bin and http://downloads.openwrt.org/snapshots/trunk/ar71xx/openwrt-ar71xx-wrt160nl-squashfs.bin Maybe this means DD-WRT is close behind. They seem to have solved the switch issues. Very Happy
Is it worth to upgrade from default firmware, or not yet, better wait for dd-wrt?

Does anyone know how to connect to 160NL linux router console? I've tried to connect over telnet via putty, but I got this error http://www.topzone.lt/forumas/2738-kaip-prisijungti-prie-routerio-linux-konsolls-linksys.html#post49806
We'll according to this post over there (see page 5) https://forum.openwrt.org/viewtopic.php?pid=92451 I would be cautious. The beginning of the thread shows how to get a serial console but IIRC the JTAG header is one of those micro sized ones that no one makes a header or a cable for yet. Stupid on Linksys' part if they built it for the 3 party firmware crowd.

Last question, so there is no way to connect to default linksys linux firmware console? It should run some kind of linksys installed linux anyway?

I read on the OpenWrt forum about some one who hack the original firmware to turn on telnet but that didn't do much for him though. Best way is to get a serial connection set up. Post 14 here: https://forum.openwrt.org/viewtopic.php?pid=88487#p88487 starts talking about it and there are some photos too.

Plus you can use the Luci webif interface or X-WRT's Webif2.

Hi,

The WRT160NL is not listed on "supported device list" so it's not possible to see compatibilty with DD-WRT. I would like to buy it but...only if DD-WRT will run on it.

Can anyone talk about this one?
Why is not possible to see it on "supported device list"?

Thanks

Not supported due to Atheros chipset. OpenWRT is working currently with the testing trunk: http://downloads.openwrt.org/snapshots/trunk/ar71xx/ Specifically: http://downloads.openwrt.org/snapshots/trunk/ar71xx/openwrt-ar71xx-wrt160nl-squashfs.bin But a word of warning, don't just flash the image unless you are familiar with OpenWrt and the command line interface. There's NO WEB GUI by default. And the WIFI interface is off by default. You have been warned.

Thanks Mordak.

"Not supported due to Atheros chipset"

Never or actually?

I know it's a very difficult question Smile, but will be there any posibility?

Because...if it should be possible, I would like to buy the router because if I wait, maybe linksys release v2 (EU) of this router like WRT300. I own a WRT300 v2 (EU) (no possible DD-WRT on it) instead v1 because I waited so much to buy it.

I would not like so again.

Anything is possible. I bought one to have just in case. I wish I could afford more but at about $90.00 US per router it's a bit expensive.

Thanks Mordak. Your help is very appreciated.

Maybe, I buy "one". As you said it's too expensive but with good features.

I hope DD-WRT firm run on it one day. Wink.

Bye

Well with OpenWrt you have to build you own from the SVN downloads to have wireless working. Certainly not easy and you need to install the Web GUI from the command line. Not easy for a noob. I don't see or hear of any DD-WRT progress with this router probably due to the Atheros chipset. The OpenWrt support will only get better with time.

One more vote for DD-WRT support on the WRT160NL! Price is dropping fast on this baby, and with the USB port, plenty of RAM and external antennas it could be a winner for best wireless-N router supported by DD-WRT.
