Hi to you all,

After an awesome experience with Asus 520GU, it works just great, i have bought wl500w and follow this wiki:

* wl500g-recover.trx wl500g-recover.trx
* Mega Image 24-sp1 dd-wrt.v24_mega_generic.bin
This image (24-sp1) may brick your WL-500W. Sp2 beta svn11218 NEWD mega is better.
* tftp client (e.g. tftpd32 Tfpd32-3.28-setup.exe)

I have read all the threads of peacock and cakk even so i tought the beta sp2 svn11218 has it solved the problems....

Like that user all the process went well, i had the router up and running, as soon i change my wireless SSID, security options, i turn off the router to put it on is place, as soon as i get it on , no more air signal, no more ping....

There is any info to take me out of this... Sad

Many Thanks for the help in advance.

Read cakk's thread from start to end. Try all that was recommended. Keep notes. Report back. You would really like ping responses at this point.

Thansk for the reply will read it and post back reults, even so i read this from Munk:

Quote:
Ok, my WL-500W is working again by doing the following:

1) Follow the short pin 9 to ground trick listed here.
http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=2507

2) Use the Asus Firmware Restoration tool from the CD

3) Sent the latest Asus firwmware 2.0.0.6 to the router

4) Waited 10 minutes

5) Sent the "wl500g-clear-nvram.trx" to the router

6) Waited 10 minutes

7) Sent the "wl500g-recover.trx" to the router

Cool Waited 10 minutes

9) Sent the "dd-wrt.v24-11650_NEWD_mega.bin" to the router.

10) Waited 10 minutes and configured just the SSID.

11) Rebooted

12) Logged back in and set my WPA2 security information.

13) Rebooted

14) Setup other items

15) Rebooted and tested

What he means with pin 9 to ground? I'm from Portugal and i really dont understand what ground means in this situation, besides that i think he figured out a way to solve this...or not.

Ah yes, This model is notorious for doing just that. I changed it's IP and it disappeared from the universe.

If you aren't able to ping it you won't be able to restore any firmware.

I'm going to attempt to attach a serial cable to the router and try to clear out some of the settings, I'll let you know if I am successful.

Hi, me again putting some light on the matter, i have used the pin 9 method and IT WORKS, but i have done something different from Munk:

1) Follow the short pin 9 to ground trick listed here.
http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=2507

2) Sent the "wl500g-clear-nvram.trx" to the router

3) Waited 2 or 3 minutes and reboot

4) Sent the "wl500g-recover.trx" to the router

5) Waited 2 or 3 minutes and reboot

6) Sent the "dd-wrt.v24-11296_NEWD_mini_asus.TRX" to the router.

7) Waited 2 or 3 minutes and reboot.

I have then enter by web Interface, reset to default settings and upgrade to 11296 Mega by web interface, everything was sucessfull.

I change an option at a time (SSID and reboot, wireless security and reboot until i was satisfied with all my options) SO FAR SO GOOD and without the need to buy a new one

I HAVENT TESTED THE USB OPTION, SO BE CAREFULLLLLL.

You are far more brave than I. My Serial board is due in today, hopefully that will yield some results.

Hey guys...I made some changes to the WL-500W wiki install today.

Please look over the instructions and let me know if you seen any major errors or anything that needs changing.

You guys have more experience with the 500W then I so I am relying on you for input.

thanx...

I also followed the method mentioned by Munk, but because I was able to ping my router, just not access the webgui, I started at step 2. The Wiki update looks good, but I, Munk, and the original person I took the guide from (someone other than Munk) all used step 2 of loading "wl500g-clear-nvram.trx" to the router first. I am not saying this step is essential because I didn't try without it, but maybe it should be added because it couldn't hurt from what I understand.

Thanks for taking the time to update the Wiki though.

OK...I added the clear nvram stuff....look it over very carefully as if it was your first time flashing.

Let me know if there is anything else that needs to be changed/added.

I feel like a 500w Pro. My USB board should be waiting for me when I get home.. besides the clear nvram thing any other suggestions with the serial?

Thanks RedHawk.

If I was to donate a router, is there a certain address/PO Box I should send to?

Thanks

Send me a PM if it comes to that....I have confidence you will get it back to a point where you can recover.

Serial is very limiting as to what you can manipulate. "nvram erase" from the CFE> is all I can suggest at this time.

If someone else knows of a better or easier way to clear nvram without a JTAG port....jump right in.

Be quick with your Cntl-C when you first plug it in....it may only be a 1/2 second window where it will take the Cntl-C.
