I am trying to upgrade to the VPN firmware and am running into an issue. In summary, I install the software and it works for a few minutes before the power light starts flashing and then you cannot access the setup pages again unless you reflash.

These are the steps that I carry:
1) Hard reset the router (netgear firmware installed) to factory settings
2) Installed initial flash “dd-wrt.v24-9893_NEWD_mini_wndr3300.chk” from dd-wrt website (Did not have much luck with dd-wrt.v24_std-wndr3300.chk, as it would not complete installation…power LED flashes, you can ping the router, but can’t get to the setup page). However, “dd-wrt.v24-9893_NEWD_mini_wndr3300.chk” posed no issues
3) Get to password page and I change it to the default user name/password (“root” and “admin”)
4) Then I install the VPN upgrade (dd-wrt.v24_vpn_generic.bin) and still no problem here.
5) Hard reset and reboot and am able to log on the router page at 192.168.1.1 showing dd-wrt setup pages
6) Here is where I start running into issues… Once I start setting it up for example changing the Local IP address and the wireless settings, and apply changes and reboot, I can no longer reach the setup pages through the new local IP address nor the default or any other IPs. The wireless lights go off, the power light keeps flashing, LED 1 is lit, and no matter how many times I do hard resets, reboot, etc. the power LED returns to flashing shortly after and setup pages are unreachable until I reinstall Netgear’s firmware. I have retried flashing it back to the original Netgear firmware (successfully) and installing dd-wrt (successfully again), and each time I run into the same eventual power light flashing and setup pages not coming up again.

Anyone has run into this issue or has any ideas what is wrong? One last note, I installed dd-wrt on my LinkSys WRT310N without any issues and have been running it for a week, so I can’t figure out what is wrong. Your thoughts and help are greatly appreciated.

Very bottom go to the .txt file.

http://www.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/downloads/others/eko/V24_TNG/svn11604/Netgear_readme.txt

Use the dd-wrt.v24-11604_NEWD_mini_wndr3300.chk file first, than use the approved .bin versions listed in that directory.

This is new info from a few weeks ago. I had to search the forums like mad till I found the solution.

Thanks very much. I will give it a try and see if these builds work better. I went ahead and bought another LinkSys WRT310N since nothing I did made a difference to the Netgear hardware. But, I still have it and am curious to know. I will let you know. Thanks again.

I gave this a try last night with the latest (Feb 13, 2009 build, I think) and it worked! Saved me a $140. Just wanted to thank you for the tip.
