Why didn't you react on my pm to make a decent framework for loading optware like samba?
I have several scripts worked out and I only need some community support.

Hi,

I've installed samba using the HDsamba2 wiki article. Then I migrated to samba 3 following the post http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=46602&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=450

My problem is that nmbd won't start after installing samba 3.2.14. Now I can access my share only by using IP 192.168.1.3 but not with the name of the server.

If I go back to samba 2 the problem is gone, but then I have issues with large files.

Can anyone help me?

As proposed in an earlier posting: testparm /mnt/opt/etc/samba/smb.conf

How does your smb.conf look like?

Thanks a ton. Now I should be able to keep my kaid server. So I upgraded my firmware to "DD-WRT v24-sp2 (09/01/09) big" with "dd-wrt.v24-12774_NEWD-2_big.bin" but I now get the following error.

Successfuly just reinstalled hdsamba package. (tried to install samba3, but 64 Mb opt partition is to small, had to revert back). Optware packages were allready installed.
No problems with eko big build 12774 for WRT610N.

Can somebody update 1'st post on this thread - current install script is v5install.HDsamba2.
cd /tmp
wget http://www.3iii.dk/linux/optware/v5install.HDsamba2)
sh v5install.HDsamba2

phillip.toone
Looks that during setup router is using ipkg, i already had ipkg-opt installed, maybe there is the difference\problem ?
Try to install ipkg-opt and uclibc-opt packages before main setup.

package uclibc-opt suggests installing ipkg-opt
ipkg: /opt/lib/libuClibc-0.9.28.so: Input/output error

Or there was not enought space on opt partition.

Actually the v4inst... and v5inst... are test installs. v4inst... includes Amorphis's testing of having a web page with status of USB drive. And v5inst.... was the first set of gruenesAlien install with the option to use UID identity etc. So both versions are beta stage - though as reported, they both seem to work just fine.

So the last "official" release of HDsamba2 is still v3inst..., as indicated on the first post.

I suggest that whom ever makes an official update of HDsamba2 system, start a new thread, and we update the wiki to point to that discussion thread. Just PM me and the scripts can be loaded to 3iii.dk if you like.

I do not recommend using the version hans posted it has an minor error and lacks of some features I already added. Use the one I posted here:

As proposed in an earlier posting: testparm /mnt/opt/etc/samba/smb.conf

How does your smb.conf look like?

I have exactly the same issue here. I had installed Samba2 and could see the shares from Windows 7, but had issues with files > 2Gb and < 4Gb. I upgraded to Samba 3 with the script from GruenesAlien at http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=58935&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=75.
Now I can move these large files, but I can only access the share through IP name \\192.68.x.x\data".

This is my testparm:

Code:
root@DD-WRT:/opt/etc/init.d#  testparm /mnt/opt/etc/samba/smb.conf
Load smb config files from /mnt/opt/etc/samba/smb.conf
Processing section "[data]"
Processing section "[data]"
Module '/opt/lib/charset/CP850.so' loaded
Loaded services file OK.
Server role: ROLE_STANDALONE
Press enter to see a dump of your service definitions

[global]
        workgroup = xxxxxxxx
        netbios name = DD-WRT-NAS
        server string = DD-WRT-NAS
        interfaces = 192.168.x.x/24
        security = SHARE
        map to guest = Bad User
        lanman auth = Yes
        client NTLMv2 auth = Yes
        log file = /opt/var/log/samba/samba_log.%m

        hosts allow = 192.168.x.0/24

        path = /mnt/data/
        force user = root
        read only = No
        inherit permissions = Yes
        inherit acls = Yes
        guest ok = Yes
root@DD-WRT:/opt/etc/init.d#

(I set ntlm auth = yes / lanman auth = yes / client ntlmv2 auth = yes with SWAT; this was suggested here:
http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/75-63-windows-samba-issue)

And these are the processes I have running. No nmbd Sad :

Are you sure you installed Version 3 of HDsamba2?

Version 5 has it's own thread :
http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=58935

Apart from that: Do things work without your modifications.

I think I'm getting a bit confused now with "HDsamba2" and "samba" versions Confused

I understand that with your upgrade script I actually upgraded HDSamba5 to install and use Samba3. Am I right?
I have no access to the router right now, but I can tell SWAT had changed (BTW in French instead of English and a little confusing not to say messed up interface), and it was reporting a 3.x version of samba - if memory serves, Samba version 3.1.25... As said, I don't have access to the router right now.
What I can tell is that nmbd is reported as stopped in the SWAT interface, and that I can't start it from there. The buttons over there are messed up and are not correctly aligned, so I tried them all!
I also tried to start with "sh /opt/sbin/nmbd -D &" from the shell, but it seems to exit right away, does not show up in "ps" .

Should I move this topic to the other thread?

The script use use is called HDsamba2. It is called HDsamba2 because it is mainly written around samba 2 (which means version 2 of the samba program).

The script collection you use ( HDsamba2 ) has version on it's own. This version number does not correspond to the version number of samba. So you upgrades you samba 2.X to samba 3.X the script behind everything is still HDsamba2. I suspect you are using HDsamba2 Version 5 and have upgraded to samba 3.X

This is the thread for HDsamba2 Version 3. And the "Version 3" refers to the script version of HDsamba2 and not to samba 3.X.

Apart from that do your config works without your additions ?

Still not completely. I can access the share through the IP address, but not with its Netbios (I guess?) name. nmbd does not start.

I'm still confused ! Embarassed I think Samba 3 solves my problem (I successfully managed to put a 3,3 Gb files on the NAS disk), but still confused with those HDsamba versions... What HDsamba should I install to havbe Samba 3 up and running correctly with nmbd running and tutti quanti ? Sorry for my bluntness ;-)
