I've formatted my previous HDD (which worked with HDSamba) from a Debian (Etch) box, so I've formatted this one in the same manner.
I also tried to format it right on the dd-wrt but same error. Will try another format utility (Partition Magic, etc) tonight and hopefully it will work. I thought that it is something wrong with the HDD.
Thanks for the info.

it might be that you just did not noticed the error. It looks like the error will prevent mounting only if the partition is big. Otherwise the error is just logged (see your dmesg) and you still can access the partition.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean. You say that the partition is too big, otherwise would have been mounted successfully?
Thanks

No I said that there is always an error. For small partitions that error will result in the partition being mounted as ext2 (and being marked as corrupt) only while for big partitions the error will result in no mount at all.

Hi all,

I have two issues after I update Samba from 2 to 3.

1- I can access my Samba share if and only if I do
Code:
smbclient -L 192.168.1.1

while smbd, nmbd are properly running.

My smb.conf file is
Quote:
# Global parameters
[global]
workgroup = DIKTUO
netbios name = NAS
server string = NAS
security = SHARE
encrypt passwords = Yes
lanman auth = Yes
client lanman auth = Yes
log file = /opt/var/log/samba/samba_log.%m
max log size = 100
name resolve order = wins hosts lmhosts bcast
socket options = TCP_NODELAY SO_RCVBUF=8192 SO_SNDBUF=8192
load printers = No
dns proxy = No
wins support = Yes
bind interfaces only = True
interfaces = 192.168.1.1/24
hosts allow = 192.168.1.0/24
remote announce = 192.168.1.255

[data]
path = /mnt/data
force user = root
read only = No
inherit permissions = Yes
inherit acls = Yes
guest ok = Yes

2- SWAT is not working anymore ...
/opt/etc/xinetd.conf
Quote:
defaults
{
only_from = localhost 192.168.1.100
instances = 60
log_type = SYSLOG authpriv info
log_on_success = HOST PID
log_on_failure = HOST
cps = 25 30
}

includedir /opt/etc/xinetd.d

and /opt/etc/xinetd.d/swat
Quote:
service swat
{
port = 901
socket_type = stream
wait = no
only_from = localhost 192.168.1.100
user = root
server = /opt/sbin/swat
log_on_failure += USERID
disable = No
}

FYI, I'm connected from 192.168.1.100, and xinetd is running.

Any help would be appreciate. Very Happy

1) Did you follow this script? http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=334644#334644

2) You need to install SWAT for Samba3:

Quote:
ipkg-opt list | grep 'swat'

samba3-swat - 3.2.13-1 - the Samba Web Admin Tool for samba3

Hi,

Thx for the info about swat ... it is running now.

However, despite samba running, I can not access my shares.

I took the same smb.conf file than described in http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=334644#334644 expect the Workgroup.

When running smbclient -L 192.168.1.1 I got
Quote:
Domain=[DIKTUO] OS=[Unix] Server=[Samba 3.2.14]
Server requested LANMAN password (share-level security) but 'client lanman auth' is disabled
tree connect failed: SUCCESS - 0

I have no idea of what is going on. Please help Exclamation

Thx to all

I'm not a samba specialist, but the error message says the server requires the authorization mode "LANMAN" but your smb client config has it disabled.

So I would check you samba client configuration to enable "client lanman auth" or disable share-level security on your smb server.

Mine is similar:

is disabled
tree connect failed: SUCCESS - 0

Don't think that that is the problem.

For your information:

Today I encountered severe problems trying to copy large files (+/- 8 Gig) from the USB drive to a Windows7(x64) folder. Over and over again the connection to the USB disk got lost.

After upgrading my samba 3.2.13-1 to 3.2.14-1 the problem was resolved :roll:

Please create a new samba version 3 config (/opt/etc/samba/smb.conf).
After verify your smb.conf file, modify and execute /opt/etc/init.d/S08samba to activate the samba version 3.
Successfully terminated.

PS: The message "The original samba version 2 config (/etc/samba/smb.conf) is no longer working with this version of samba." was not valid for me because I was upgrading from a samba version 3 already.

Hi!
Wonderfull work!!!

I have a little suggest, why you don't make the hard drive name as a parameter?

I try to explain with my poor english Embarassed ...
For example I have an usb stick with two partition, one for optware stuff and the other one for swap, and I have an usb external hard drive as third partition. I use the hard drive for backup and I power it on only when I need it. With this configuration I can't use your script, but if you use tree variables for partition name, something like:

PART1=/dev/scsi/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/part1
PART2=/dev/scsi/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/part2
PART3=/dev/scsi/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/part3

i can change PART3 to /dev/scsi/host1/bus0/target0/lun0/part1
Laughing

So your work is usable for many configuration

Bye

Hi,

I've installed samba using the HDsamba2 wiki article. Then I migrated to samba 3 following the post http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=46602&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=450

My problem is that nmbd won't start after installing samba 3.2.14. Now I can access my share only by using IP 192.168.1.3 but not with the name of the server.

If I go back to samba 2 the problem is gone, but then I have issues with large files.

Can anyone help me?

I'm new here and I'm not sure if I should be adding to this post or starting a new one. I'll humbly beg for your assistance and you can let me know.

I have spent an ungodly amount of time trying to get HDsamba working on my Asus WL-500W router. I initially tried this with "dd-wrt.v24_mega_generic.bin" but got an error at "TASK 6" telling me that there was not enough room on jffs. So I switched to "dd-wrt.v24_usb_generic.bin" (Firmware: DD-WRT v24-sp2 (07/21/09) mini-usb) and now I have the following problems with "TASK 8":

@gizimodo : test your config with the command "testparm".

@phillip.toone : If you use newer build use eko big build. In the past this build had been named mega, too. This build is about 1MB smaller than BS mega and thus leaves enough room on jffs.

@deep : I made a modification of HDsamba2 V3 so you can locate each partition on different discs. I posted it here: http://www.dd-wrt.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=331139#331139
