As everyone probably knows, Comcast recently started using a bandwidth cap of 250 GB per billing cycle. They do not provide a centralized bandwidth meter (unless they cancel your account - then they'll be happy to tell you how much bandwidth you used).

I currently have DD-WRT v23 SP3 (06/20/07) std installed in my Buffalo WHR-HP-G54. I have some questions about upgrading to v24 SP1:

    1. Will this allow me to monitor total upload/download bandwidth for everything on my network (Three PCs, One Mac, and a Gaming Console)?

    2. Is this http://www.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/downloads/stable/dd-wrt.v24 SP1/Consumer/Buffalo/WHR-HP-G54/dd-wrt.v24_std_generic.bin the correct file to download?

    3. Can I install this from the v23 SP3 Administration | Firmware Upgrade Tab?

    4. Will I lose any features with the upgrade?

    5. Will my custom settings (IP addresses, Transmit power, Wireless encryption and password, Port forwarding) etc... be lost when I upgrade?

Many Thanks

1. yes
2. yes
3. yes
4. no
5. yes because it is recommended to restore the unit to defaults before and after upgrade. not doing so can cause problems (maybe even bricking your router)

Use the web gui of the router to update.
30/30/30 hard reset before and after firmware update.

Thank you for the replies.

I'm a little confused (and I think mat1983 is too) on
"http://www.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/downloads/stable/dd-wrt.v24 SP1/Consumer/Buffalo/WHR-HP-G54/dd-wrt.v24_std_generic.bin"

which soulstace recommended, and which appears to be the latest stable v24 release, versus

which Shawn360 recommended.

The Router is a Buffalo WHR-HP-G54

What are the advantages and disadvantages of the SP1 "v24_std_generic" versus the TNG "v24-11296_NEWD_std"

Thanks

On your router you can run any of the generic versions of dd-wrt except mega your router only has a 4MB flash chip you need a 8MB flash to run mega.

lol - yes - I think you already mentioned that one (TNG) is less buggy than the other (SP1). Is this specifically in reference to the Buffalo WHR-HP-G54, or just in general?

Also, the SP1 is a "stable" release while the TNG is a beta, correct? See, that's what's confusing me here.

Opinions are welcomed.

Thank You

To any router running v24 sp1.
Nothing to be confuse one is a better build than the other or in other words the official release is not as good as the other simple.

OK, thanks for the feedback. BTW, I'm guessing that the bandwidth monitor is in both v24 SP1 and the TNG versions. Correct?
