Tried the DD-WRT v24-sp2 (03/03/09)firmware, but the result was flashing Diag light:

1. Set PC static ip (192.168.11.199 / 255.255.255.0)
2. Power cycled router
3. Performed 30/30/30 reset
4. Turned off router
5. Ran tftp2:
- server 192.168.11.1
- password: <blank>
- file: firmware.bin (030309 firmware.tftp)
- Result: tftp2 reported success
6. Saw that router rebooted
7. Waited 5 minutes.
8. Performed 30/30/30 reset
9. Result:
- continuous Diag (red light) 2 light flashes, power LED on
- ping result = 'request timed out'
10. Tried 30/30/30 reset, but no avail

Tried re-flashing again (steps 2 to 5 above), success reported by tftp2, but still 2 blinks from Diag light.

Any thoughts on how to remedy this? (BTW, I have no access to a serial level shifter cable for serial flashing.)

Many thanks in advance.

after flash you set the ip to 192.168.1.99
and the Gateway to 192.168.1.1
The WebGui is rechable at http://192.168.1.1 now.

Hi Gruss,

I tried setting the PC's ip to 192.168.1.99, and gateway to 192.168.1.1, hoping that the flash was indeed successful, but couldn't access the 192.168.1.1 webgui.

I have tried 190309 and 260309.

After after I updated to these two, I cannot connect to the router wirelessly.

I also reset the router using the option in update firmware but with no luck.

Cannot see the router at all wirelessly.

I have to revert back to 030309 version firmware.

Hi,

I originally flashed my WHR-G300N router with the 030309/firmware.tftp That was fine, web gui was up at 192.168.1.1.

After that, I wanted to use a more updated version, using the web-flash (090409/WHR-G300N-webflash.bin).

Unfortunately, the router cant boot up anymore. It doesnt respond to ping on 192.168.1.1 When I power up the router, the power led and the "diag" led turns on. After about 10 seconds, the "diag" led flashes and looks like the router resets itself. Then it goes into a continuous loop ("diag" on for 10 seconds, flashes for 3 seconds, repeat).

I tried the full reset but it still doesnt help. Also try flashing it with the 030309/firmware.tftp with tftp2 but it was never successful.

I dont have the serial link. Is the router broken? Any chance to "un-brick" it without the serial link?

Thanks in advance,

Hi

set your network interface card IP to 192.168.11.2
Standardgateway to 192.168.11.1

start tftp2 with Server : 192.168.11.1
when the network interface card detect Connection klick Upgrade and wait.

after reboot set your network interface card back to 192.168.1.x

Thanks a lot, that worked like magic! I nearly go out to buy another one.

Just a bit of background: the factory firmware (v1.6) from buffalo crashes after about 10 minutes into bit-torrent session. ping, web-gui were all unresponsive. At the time of crash, netstat shows less than 50 TCP connections were opened... kinda sucks huh?

Anyway, the next step is to BT again with the DD-WRT 030309 firmware. Hope that holds! (fingers crossed)

Cheers,
Razz

Even though WHR-G300N is now officially supported through netupdate the webflash-file did NOT work on my device. I got the same error message that i posted on the first page of this thread. "Invalid firmware, Rebooting". Could you please tell me how to get it to work with webflash, thank you!

Why not you try the tftp method? I found that pretty straight forward. Here are the detailed steps I follow from the guide (for WHR-G300N, computer on Windows):

1. Check router IP (run ipconfig /all). Gateway is the router IP. Make sure your computer is connected directly to the router on the ethernet ports 1-4 (not WAN).

2. Config your own IP to be static (do not use DHCP) If router is 192.168.11.1 config your LAN card on your computer 192.168.11.2. Make sure you can ping your router while not using DHCP. The factory setting has the router on 192.168.11.1 unless changed.

3. Download image from:
http://www.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv2/downloads/others/eko/BrainSlayer-V24-preSP2/030309/WHR-G300N/firmware.tftp

4. Run tftp (Windows GUI version), input router IP (factor default 192.168.11.1), no password, firmware is the downloaded firmware.tftp

5. Push the reset button on router for a few seconds and hold, unplug power from router, leave for another 30 seconds. The LAN icon on windows should detected "Cable disconnected"

6. Plug in power to router, as soon as you see the red "DIAG" LED goes on, release the reset button.

7. When the LAN icon starts the handshake animation, click Update button on the tftp program immediately.

8. If the timing is right, the tftp program would say that the firmware is updated. If the timing was wrong, it just goes into a loop and fails after the retry limit.

I took 3-4 tries before the tftp method worked. Once it worked, you need to config your LAN to DHCP or on 192.168.1.2 static.

Access http://192.168.1.1 and enjoy !

By the way, in terms of stability, 030309 is far better than the factory 1.6 firmware. 16 hours of BT and counting without reboot!

I tried to flash my router to 090409 using both the webflash and the tftp file. The webflash didn't work at all, complained about incompatible firmware. I tried the TFTP and simply got the continuous reboot of the router, but still was able to do a TFTP flash.

Got 030309 TFTP firmware, flashed it and it works great.

Just thought I'd let anyone know who is trying to use the latest firmware and is having problems that it didn't work for me either.
