when i restore via CLI nowadays, it just gives a warning that its for board xxxxx not tried on different board....yet Razz

And this proves what, exactly? That the DD-WRT version information doesn't prevent using an older backup file?

Take a look at nvram-save.sh discussed here. It comes with easyddup.
